TI 2021 hangs applying user settings and MVPPE Builder fails with BSOD on restore.
On Friday I attempted to update to the latest 2021 build 32010. I ran the installer and it would never complete and would just sit there. I used Task manager to kill the install the install and attempted to open the 2021 GUI. It hung up on applying user settings. I rebooted and still could not get the TI 2021 GUI to open with build 30480. I tried the update to build 32010 again but it also hung up. I tried multiple times to open the GUI with no success. I tried to uninstall b30480 using the clean tool but was unsuccessful.I uninstalled 2021 build 30480 with Revo Pro uninstaller 3.2 and tried a clean install of 32010 but this also failed. I then decided to restore the previous nights backup using the MVP PE Builder. I booted from the PE builder USB drive and began a restore. Part way through the final restore process of restoring partitions the restore stopped with a BSOD "error Pnp Watchdog". Very unusual so I tried again and again had the same error during the partition restore process. I also tried with a Linux restore USB and that hung during the restore process and would not complete. In between all these attempts I did a clean install of windows and attempted to install TI 2021 32010. The install refused to complete hanging with just a small amount to go. I left the machine withe the clean install overnight and just shut it down. In the morning when I started the machine up and lo and behold TI 2021 32010 was actually installed. I really didn't want to completely rebuild this machine so I built another MVP PE builder USB stick using the WINRE option on my laptop.. The previous build was with the WIN ADK 2004 option. I was able to restore my machine successfully. and was finally able to update to build 32010. Even after the restore the GUI would not always open and would hang at applying settings. I always had to reboot to get the GUI to open. I thought possibly Malwarebytes and/or Windows Defender were causing the problem but I was able to come to a definitive conclusion concerning these 2 apps.
I have never had an issue before with the MVP PE builder before and never a BSOD during a restore. I pretty sure that the ADK installed is for Win 10 2004. I plan to send a report to Acronis especially about the hangs.
After several attempts and restarts, I ran ATI 2021 as Administrator. It hung for about 15 seconds and then it launched. More concerning now is the fact that True Image has been backing up for 24 hours and has only backed up about 25% of my system and says I have another 6 hours to go. I stopped it and restarted as Administrator to see if this has any effect. I'll post again in a couple of hours if this made a difference.
