Hello,

I have been trying to get my following question answered by customer sevice, however they dont reply, three times in one week.

Question,

Can True Image 2021 allow me to sync both of my external hard drives to each other, and also mirror my PC hard drive to a separate external hard drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, What has your experience been with Acronis customer service?

Thank you,

Steve

Steve, welcome to these public User Forums.

Simple answer is that you cannot sync any drives to other drives using ATI 2021 (or any other version) as the sync feature only works between different PC's (running ATI) or the Acronis Cloud.

Experience with Acronis customer service can be challenging at times, especially when they tend to work from scripted responses that don't fit the user issue being described!!

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your response.

I was finally able to talk to customer tech. support...

I was informed that if I create a folder in one of my external hard drives ATI 2021 is able to automatically back-up any changes i.e. photos in my second external hard drive.

I went ahead with the purchase including install support on the 3rd of September.

I am quite frustrated and don't know what to expect at this time.?

The purpose of my goal is to use one external hard drive for all of my Lightroom photos with edits, and have ATI copy any changes I make into my second hard drive.

Do you really think they know what I am trying to do?

Thank you for your kind reply.

Steve

Steve, it is possible that Acronis Support are talking at cross purposes here and not giving you an answer about using the Synchronisation feature of ATI 2021 but of the Backup feature!

From the ATI 2021 User Guide section on Synchronisation:

A synchronization process may be established between:

  • Two or more folders on two or more computers.
  • One or more computers and Acronis Cloud.

Acronis Cloud always contains the last versions of the synced files. At the same time you cannot select a folder on Acronis Cloud to participate in a sync, such folder is created automatically.

Within one sync process you may assign only one sync folder on every computer.

ATI can make automatic / scheduled backups of your source folder(s) but the backup data will be stored within container files using the Acronis .tib file format, which may not be what you are looking for here!

The purpose of my goal is to use one external hard drive for all of my Lightroom photos with edits, and have ATI copy any changes I make into my second hard drive.

You may be able to achieve what you are asking by creating a small Windows batch command file and using Robocopy to do the synchronisation, where you could schedule this to run via the Windows Task Scheduler at the frequency that suits you.

The simplest form for the Robocopy command is:

robocopy d:\ f:\ /mir

where d:\ is the source folder, f:\ is the target folder, and /mir is the command to mirror the contents of the source to the target folder (including any deletions).

See Microsoft webpage: Robocopy and a Few Examples - for more examples of using this tool that is integrated within Windows!
