Unable to backup booting from rescue disk

Thread needs solution

I am running Windows 10 Home and ATI 2021 build 39216. I created a recovery disk with no errors...I used the Linux option.
When I boot from the DVD all goes normally and I can select the external USB drive to backup to but after I select the drive no other function works. I can't proceed any further. When I click any option nothing happens. I tried an alternate external USB drive with the same results.

I have a rescue disk I created earlier with ATI 2020 that worked fine for backing up and restoring. Can I use that to backup and restore all of my computers if I don't want to use the ATI 2021 GUI?

Al, I would recommend creating the 'Simple' WinRE version of the rescue media and testing with that.  There have been some reports of issues with the Linux media though I haven't seen any myself though rarely use that type!

Thanks Steve, I have avoided the Simple WinRE because I sometimes encountered "locked files" errors using this method.

That is why I thought using the ATI 2020 recovery disk with the Linux option was a possible way to get past this problem. That disk always worked properly.

Al, to avoid issues with locked drives / disks, you need to ensure that the PC is shutdown fully before booting from rescue media, and is not in a hybrid sleep / hibernation type state due to having Windows Fast Start enabled.  Pressing & holding a Shift key when clicking on Shutdown should cause a full shutdown.

Steve, thanks for all the helpful info. I'll create a Simple WinRE DVD and try your suggestions. I  have all sleep/hibernation options disabled in the Windows power settings. But following your suggestion can't hurt just to ensure a full shutdown.
