What happens to licence at the end of subscription if I don't want to renew?

Thread needs solution

I wish I had not taken out a 2020 Subscription license having had Permanent before, especially as I feel 2021 is just a step too far in unreliability and extra features I do not need.

Can I transfer from Subscription to Permanent (2020) and/or what happens if I cancel at the end of my subscription in terms of both the code and my backups?

When a subscription expires, all functionality is gone except for recovery. I suggest creating a good recovery media version first.

I don't know of a way to convert a license, although you could buy a 2020 perpetual license. As I understand it, if you buy and activate a 2020 version between July 21 and Dec 31 2020, you can get a free upgrade to 2021.

I'll second Bruno's suggestion. I only buy perpetual licenses because of the loss of data related to not renewing the subscription. In fact I had my free subscription license from the beta converted to perpetual for that reason.

Would I be able to switch to a permanent license and still keep my backups?

The backups should be just fine.

Before doing so, save your backup tasks to be sure. I have been thinking of trying this myself whereby I simply change the license key for an installed version to change from subscription to perpetual license. On my list for sometime later.

I have successfully changed my own laptop from subscription to perpetual license with 2020 where I signed out of my Acronis Account (on the Account page) then entered my serial number for the perpetual version.  This was before upgrading to the subscription 2021 version for testing after it was released to the public!

Steve, I am looking to do something similar, but in my case I am running ATI 2019 on subscription but I have a perpetual license key that is already registered to my account. I may try entering the license key without signing out of the account.

EDIT: I did it your way... signed out, entered the key and then signed back in. It seems to be all just fine.

The thing I find confusing is that when I go to my Acronis account online, I can see all my licenses, going back to ATI 2014. But for the perpetual licenses I can't tell how many or what computers are using each. For the subscription, I can see all the devices. One of them still listed is the device I just changed to the perpetual license. I wonder what would happen if I deactivate it under the subscription. When I look at the account information in the program, it shows the correct information for the perpetual license, but also shows the cloud storage for the subscription. Perhaps the cloud storage would disappear.

And to add to the confusion... what would happen if I tried to go back to the subscription on this device? And how would I do it?

Bruno, the lack of detail about where your perpetual licenses are allocated is a long term grievance with the Acronis Account pages!  The only way to find out is to try to install the same license on a new PC and trigger the 'You have exceeded....' message, which then will give you a list of the PC's holding the current licenses, so that one can be moved!

On the switching between subscription to perpetual to subscription, this seems to just work from my experience without any issues that I can remember hitting!  If both types of licenses are held by the same Acronis Account, then cloud storage is still shown for all PC's on the account to use (assuming they are signed in with the account credentials).  I see this with my ATI 2021 PC's where I have used a perpetual license but can still make backups to the Cloud.
