Acronis True Image Workstation with Universal Restore does not restore full disk image backup on new machine!

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I have completed these steps to migrate my old Win XP Pro SP 3 with programs to my new machine (different hardware):
1) Completed Full disk backup onto external USB drive and verified backup image
2) Made bootable disc using True Image Workstation with Universal Restore
3) Booted from disk, selected True Image Workstation with Universal Restore Full version.
4) Followed screens, selected external drive with proper backup (Never saw the "Make Active" selection for the hard drive or anything regarding the finding of drivers for the new machine)
5) Commenced with restore session on new machine (hard drive was not formatted, partitioned, or had Win XP Pro SP 3 installed (This was the first try).
6) Program seemed to work and said completed, but with the size of the image, the restore process seemed too fast
7) Rebooted and could not boot into Windows

Please help, I have spent several days doing this, all to no avail. Tried with an unformatted disk (larger than old hard drive), then formatted drive with NTFS with Win XP Pro SP3 installed, both of these situations ended in the no boot to windows situation. I am very frustrated at this point and would like some guidance with this problem. I have also submitted the support request via the website. Thank you.

Regards,
G

Hello Glen!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad you joined us! I completely understand your concern and will be glad to assist you.

Thank you for detailed description, it helped a lot. Could you please kindly also specify what exact drivers you've used during the restoration process? Please note that prior to restoring to new hardware you need also to contact the vendor of the motherboard (or other mass storage device - e.g. RAID, SCSI disk controller, etc.) and request the latest drivers for this mass storage device. Unpack them fto be in .inf and .oem format and specify the path to them during the recovery process.

I would also advise you to take a look at this Acronis Universal Restore Guide with step-by-step screenshots - it may shed some light to the situation as well.

I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us posted regarding this question.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
