multi-problem

Thread needs solution

Purchased True Image Echo Workstation (build 8,076) about April 2008 and installed on 05/10/2008, with difficulties, on Windows 2000 Pro performing as a file server. Performed backups to an external USB drive until PC failed, and reinstalled Acronis on 05/17/2009, but was unable to restore or recover any files with Acronis. Although I am somewhat computer literate, Acronis makes me feel like a dummy, ie very confusing; this software seems like an IT consultants full employment dream. A computer guy told me that the OS and programs always must be reinstalled, but I had heard that with imaging software one could avoid this chore.

Now I have recently reinstalled Acronis, would like to try using it again; with questions as follows:

1. Since I have never received any updates/upgrades (any free ones which I was entitled to download), are there any, and how do I get them?

2. Now Acronis does not even "see" the USB drive; how do I fix this?

3. Simply, how do I set up automatic backups so as to immediately restore to a replacement PC and not miss a beat?

4. Does the disk imaging stuff allow me to do a quick restore on the C drive without having to reinstall the OS and programs? Or is there a way to backup up key parts of your OS? How do you restore a system with Acronis when it was installed on the PC that just failed?

5. Can I use Acronis to backup my 3 workstations to the same USB drive?

6. Is there a simple tutorial for simpletons like me?

Thanks!!!
Mike

Hello Mike,

Thank you for posting. I will certainly help you with your questions.

The build you are using (8,076) is not the most current one, I would recommend to download the latest build from your Acronis web-account (8,398). The latest build should take care of the USB recognition problem since it will have the latest drivers.

You can schedule backup tasks from the Acronis True Image Echo Workstation Management Console. Please check page 98 of the user guide for step-by-step instructions.

Unfortunately it is not possible to restore just the programs to a new OS. You can however create a partition backup of your OS with all the programs and restore them with all your applications.

You can definitely use Acronis to backup your 3 workstations to the same USB drive. Please check page 100 of the user guide. Please note that you will need 1 license per 1 computer according to Acronis licensing policy.

If you are interested we have video tutorials on our Acronis Youtube channel.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
