The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Enterprise Server archive.

Thread needs solution

I'm using Acronis True Image Enterprise Server® version 9.1 (build 3,718) and I've ran into the following problem. I created a full backup of a RAID5 array with 1.4TB of data. I have since deleted and repartitioned the array and went to restore from a backup I created the day before. The message when I select the backup to restore is "The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Enterprise Server archive." I thought the image might be corrupt even though it passed verification, good thing I made two runs on the backup. Well, the second backup was a complete system backup and weighs in a little over 1.8TB. Problem is, this file also gives the same error.

I have a trial key for v.10 and I was going to install that and hope for the best.

I also cannot right click and mount or restore. Double clicking the tib file will start to open Acronis, but after the splash screen that saiys the components it's loading - nothing happens. Splash screen disappears and that's it. All the other backups I made the same time (I told it to back up different drive and different partitions, all to image files) work correctly. It seems to be having problems with these files because of their size; BUT they all verified upon creation.

The logs for the backup all show "Operation has succeeded."

Now, did I just loose 1.4TB of data? Quite frankly I'm freaking out a bit right now.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your post. Please accept my apologies for the delay but I will definitely help you with this.

The error message The selected file is not an Acronis True Image Enterprise Server archive indicates that our software somehow detects the image to be corrupt.

Please let me know, where is the backup file located? Are you using a recovery disk to restore?

When you try to mount or explore the backup in Windows, it is very likely that the software may have an issue with the backup size. It is a 2 versions back program.

To resolve this problem let us please try the following. I understand that it is a 1.4 TB file, but can you please try moving it to another backup location and try the recovery again.

I will also send you a trial recovery disk for Acronis Backup and Recovery 10, it is backward compatible with images created by 9.1. Since it is a trial version, it is limited to recovery only.

You can also check this backwards compatibility table available in our Knowledge Base.

Please let me know if you need additional assistance or have any other questions.

Thank you.

I have multiple backup files on a 2TB SATA drive that I use for backups. All the backups were run the same day and all are accessible other than the 1.4TB one. The drive is a new drive, which has no bad sectors, data corruption or anything wrong with it. The second backup I ran which is 1.8TB is on another 2TB SATA drive. Both drives are in hot-swap sleds and were used different days for the backup and then taken off-site. This other drive is also new, with no bad sectors, data corruption, or any other faults. Both drives went through vigorous testing before being used for the backups.

I have not tried the "recovery disk" because It would be way too much of a hassle to try and get it working with (3) different SATA RAID drivers at the same time. I could try it as a complete last resort, but I know trying to make it work properly is going to take years off my life. I'm using the software right inside of Windows Server 2003 x64. Repartitioning and reformatting the RAID5 array was the first step to upgrading to Server 2008 x64 for me.

Moving the 1.4TB file to another location isn't feasible, to do this I would have to purchase another 2TB drive. I already have a pair of 2TB drives, and both have these large recovery images on them, I'm unsure what I would gain by moving the image around.

If a trial recovery disk for 10 will get me out of this mess and is only limited to recovery, that would be OK with me. As long as I get out of this mess, I'll worry about everything else later. Right now the most important thing for me is to get my 1.4TB of data out of this image file and back on to the RAID5 array.

Trial recovery disc also did not work, this is the error reported:

Again, the smaller tib files worked fine, the large tib files didn't.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for replying.

I am very sorry for not able to resolve the issue for you in the forum, that is why I would recommend the following.

Please check this Knowledge Base article for Troubleshooting Issues With Corrupt Backups. If none of the workarounds there solve the problem, please contact our support and our support engineers will definitely resolve this issue for you.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I tried to use the support, but it doesn't have the option for True Image Enterprise Server. I've tried to access support going through trial versions, but all it keeps saying is that I don't have licensing. Everything else just points me to the knowledge base or these forums. I can't enter in the serial number that I have for True Image Enterprise Server because I can't find it in the software anywhere and if I recall correctly the key is located on the drive that was backed up (so it's in this backup file that I can't recover).

Not sure what my next step is.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for getting back to me.

In order to receive support you need to have the software registered under your Acronis web-account and have a valid support program. Please check this article for details.

Can you please send me a private message with some sort of purchasing confirmation for your program, I will be able to look it up in our database and provide you with a solution for this serial number issue.

Please let me know if you need additional assistance.

Thank you.
