System Backup

Thread needs solution

I have 2 partitions,
C: system and programs
D: swap file.

If i want to back up my system is it correct to back up only C:? I think it's useless to waste disk for backing up a swap file.
But what happens if one day i'd restored C: only?
Does windows might have problems in finding D: with a swap file different (different coz i have restored the prev version of the system)
Thank u in advance
Patrick

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for your question. I will be happy to assist you.

To be honest, we have never tested a recovery with the swap file located on another partition, that is why I cannot let you know how this will work for you. Also, our program was initially designed to ignore swap and hiberfil.sys files during a backup to reduce image size and speed up the backup process. You can read more about this on page 15 of our User Guide.

Please get back to me in case you have additional questions or require further assistance.

Thank you.

Thank u Anton,
am i the only one who has this problem?
why was 6GB (swap file) plus other 6 GB (hyberfyl.sys) for having nothing useful?
why wasting 12GB space to have nothing?
i'd be most grateful if u could test this situation for me (for everyone) and let us know the results.
This is very important to me.
Thank u
Patrick

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for replying.

Unfortunately I do not have any information why it was decided to automatically exclude the swap and hiberfil files from the backup. However, I will create a Customer Listening Case and forward it to our Development team for consideration. As a workaround, you can create a files/folders backup of these files, please refer to page 65 of our User Guide available here.

In the meantime, I will test this scenario on my virtual machine and get back to you with an answer.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
