True Image Workstation W7 X-64 RTM Get around - Works fine

Thread needs solution

Hi all

This might help some of you with Acronis True Image Workstation on W7 X-64  RTM .

I'm using build 8206 and Windows 7 x-64 RTM.

Just change the name of the program to TI.EXE (and your links) and it works fine

Haven't had a smither of bother backing up and restoring.

Of course the  "Bootable stand alone" version still works.

Cheers all

was this a joke? (nods head in a positive manner)

how does renaming the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TrueImage.exe" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome\TI.exe" make it work?? O_o

I was wondering about that myself .... every valid .exe file I've come across will execute no matter what name you give it before the .exe name.  The OP probably had something else pointing to TI.exe rather than the installed name.

It isn't a joke. Windows 7 contains a list of blocked programs; a so-called blacklist. When you start a program, Windows 7 first checks the blacklist to see if the program has been blocked. If you change the name of the program's executable file, the new name is not in the blacklist so the program will then run.

I'm reluctant to mention this and would not recommend the OP's workaround. Programs end up on the blacklist because Microsoft's testing lab found incompatibilities with Windows 7. Before putting a program on the list, MS works with the vendor to correct problems. If the manufacturer says something to the effect of "we aren't going to update that program because our newest version will be Windows 7 compatible", then MS will add it to the blacklist with the vendor's blessing. The latter reason could be the only reason that the program ended up on the blacklist, so there may actually be no incompatibility with Windows 7, but do you want to take this chance with your data?

I'll give it a try - as of now, I cannot restore my system at all.

BTW - anyone know why there are red flags on my hard drives?  I have never seen them before, but now I cannot restore to the drive I need too.  I was wondering if the red flag has anything to do with that.

Thanks.

Hey Barry!

Perform a Chkdsk on your hard-drive.

Hey Barry!

I got around the W7 blacklist by renaming ECHO TrueImage.exe to TrueImageX.exe. Happiness abounded. Upon attempt to uninstall/upgrade to release 11: the Acronis process failed. So heads up: backout your renames before you attempt uninstall/upgrade. Happiness will abound.
