version 9.1 restore

Thread needs solution

I've still got 9.1 with Universal restore on my Dell 330. Universal restore wants *.inf file
but the dell drivers for that model doesn't have them.
Any ideas?

Greetings,

Is this a desktop or laptop? Are you looking for storage controller drivers???

Your post doesn't give us enough information about your problem or what it is you are trying to accomplish?

If you're looking for Storage Controller Drivers... try this

They need to be unzipped, and the .inf files need to be put onto a USB sick..... then provided to universal restore during the restore operation...  if this is what you are attempting to accomplish?

Note: The drivers I referenced may not be the correct drivers for your system.  I have no way of knowing without more information.

I think you know what I need to do, thanks
Trying to restore a Dell precision 330 desktop. Manual says:You have drivers for the hard disk drive controller or chipset drivers for the new computer. These drivers are critical for booting the operating system.
I'll try your link and see if I can get whats needed

Using restore I get a blue flash only. Using universal restore it asks for an *.inf file, but Dell drivers don't have any *.inf files for this computer in any of their driver files, it's too old. I don't know how to get around this hard drive failure using a new computer for the restore.

Sun Joh,

Is the recovery image of this actual computer, that is you are not trying to restore an image of Dell Worksation 'A' to Dell Workstation 'B'? If it is back to the same workstation, you shouldn't need to use the Universal Restore.

Do you have the XP install CD? If you do and you have changed hardware, you could restore your image and afterwards reboot with the XP Cd inserted and run a repair install of XP, which would rebuild the installed drivers and insert them into registry as required.

I do have changed hardware on my workstation B. After reinstall including the old FAT and MBR, I used the Xp disk to repair. Neither the repair from recovery console or the full "R" on the restored disk did anything but leave it with ntldr missing on boot, and none of the ntldr repairs worked either. Now I used restore with only the C drv restore, and then the XP install CD using the full "R" function it still won't boot. If I leave the xp install disk in the CD and don't press a key to start it, the disk boots. I can also use F8 to force safe mode,
where all looks restored, but upon restart without the XP install it just wont boot to the C drv.
I'm lost as to the proper sequence to use.
