100% CPU Usage in XP Home and Pro with Latest ATIH Update
After I updated my dual-boot desktop (Windows XP Home and Windows 7 Home Premium), the Windows XP installation showed 100% CPU usage when opening the program. I am not sure why this is happening -- makes it totally unusable. I used Task Manager in XP Home to look at the CPU usage when the system slowed to a crawl after opening Acronis True image Home 2011. Here's the readings when it showed 100% CPU usage:
TrueImageHomeService.exe -- 50-90% CPU Usage
TrueImageHomeNotify.exe -- 0% CPU Usage
TrueImage.exe -- 40-50% CPU Usage
TrueImageMonitor.exe -- 0% CPU Usage
When booting to the Windows 7 partition it showed:
TrueImageHomeService.exe -- 50-80% CPU Usage
TrueImage.exe -- 0% CPU Usage
TrueImageHomeNotify.exe -- 0% CPU Usage

Colin,
I have 2GB of RAM -- both Win 7 and XP partitions use the same system hardware. While not lightning fast, the Windows 7 Boot partition is much faster when running the latest Acronis TIH 2011. Otherwise, all other programs run about the same with both OSs.
I didn't notice similar issues with previous version of ATIH 2011. I uninstalled Comodo firewall and am using the Windows firewall temporarily. I added Acronis to the exclusions list for AVAST.
I used the ATIH cleanup tool and did a complete new install after removing Comodo. I get a similar but slightly different performance characteristics. It still uses 100% CPU when opening and for well over 1 minute afterwards. This time it is the TrueImage.exe that is using 90-98% CPU. But, if I let it sit and come back in a few minutes, it will show only 5-10% usage. But, if I click anything, even "go to main screen", it pegs to 100% again for over 1 minute again before dropping back to 5-10% CPU usage.
Maybe my CPU, (2.8 GHz Pentium 4) just can't hack the latest version. I am getting delivery tomorrow of components to build a high-end Core i7 system, so maybe I should wait to see whether the CPU usage issues remain with the new system -- unless you have any other thoughts to check in advance ?

I have the same problem:
Windows XP
ATI Home 2010
CPU Usage 100%
Tested disconnecting my USB Hard drive and rebooting. Everything is fine until I start ATI. Uses 100% cpu and slows the computer down, even without USB hard drive connected.
I found several people having the same problem but none of the threads offers a solution. This is scary!!!!
Need your help.

Not quite, the others are reporting the problem with 2011
Has the PC worked OK before with 2010?
Is it Svchost that is showing high CPU usage?
Do you have any card readers attached?
Have you installed or upgraded any software recently including MS updates?
If you have a previous build of 2010, does rolling back to this solve the problem?
Perhaps trying a repair install of 2010 will solve the problem.

Colin, Appreciate your prompt reply.
I had never installed ATI on this computer before. I am just moving all my stuff to this computer.
Svchost.exe shows 00 CPU.
NO card readers at all.
I don't recall any MS updates. I haven't used this computer for a few months though.
I ran the cleanup utility. I re-installed ATI. Everything looks OK so far.
Then I start ATI, get to the CTRL Panel "Welcome to ATI Home 2010". I don't do any clicks and I can see "TrueImage.exe" using 99 CPU and "Memory usage" goes up to 350MB then it goes down to 35MB and goes up again to 350MB and keeps going up and down, without a single click on my side. All the time "TrueImage.exe" is using 99 CPU.
Appreciate your help.

OK,
Do you have the free version of Avira antivirus installed?
What build is your 2010?
In Task Manager, if you right click on the task showing the most usage, select Priority and see what that is set at - it should be either normal or low.
In Services.msc check for Distributed Link Tracking entry, stop this service and disable it, run chkdsk /r on the drive, leave the service disabled - see what happens. I assume the PC is not connected to a domain, stopping this service will prevent some domain services running.
Do you know what version of SNAPAPI drivers are being used - find it at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers look for snapman.sys , right click and check the version number under properties.
Mine is 3.10.0.557
