2009 upgrade: install not possible

Thread needs solution

vista 64/4GB/dutch, previous version V11

tried to install latest build TrueImage2009.9796_s_en. Install stops within 3 seconds: cannot install previous version.

Then manually uninstalled: was left with an array of remainders. Same error.

Run cleanupprogram; same error; went manually through registry, deleted all acronis keys (plenty left!).

the program install now starts, but when it is almost ready: install cannot remove previous version..

now I'am all out of idea's. Even my version 11 will not reinstall with the same error now...

suggestions?

Have you tried deleting the contents of your ' temp ' folder located under 'users\log on name\local settings\ ' ?

I've run cc cleaner to delete all temps, and after that, iobit systemcare to clean junk, and manually searched the disk for "acronis"and "trueimage"and deleted everything.

I suspect the registry as the msi installer log contains this error:

1: MSIGEN:Error occured during CheckForUpgradeCode for {3936C069-15B6-43D0-AB4E-B9D415677BB8}: 1605
Action ended 9:47:34: DetectMsiMajorUpgradables. Return value 3.
MSI (c) (00:F4) [09:47:34:641]: Doing action: FatalErrorForm

the error message is something like  "the installation was interupted before acronis true image home could be installed etc"

when i install my version 11, (now, a few days ago i could install without any issues..) I do receive a similar message.

There are absolutely no other issues with my pc, everything runs as it should, and there are no other programs with problems.

Fine, but to make sure it is a good idea to physically check the hidden temporary folder. Some temp files will be locked and can only be removed in Windows 'Safe Mode', many drive cleaners won't touch this folder in case they wipe out something that is needed.

Have you run the actual Acronis, Registry Cleaner?

Thanks for the suggestions,

this hidden folder is not anymore there in vista, it has moved, but it has been cleaned up also.

I've run the arcronis cleaning program, giving a trouble with the UAC in vista. I am not amused with the way acronis has done this... It also did  not remove the boot up (f11) loader, and still the registry was filled up with acronis remains. I am also not sure it has cleaned up the other users logins.

Finally I solved the issue..

I restored an image of a few months ago and started with properly uninstalling V11 before upgrading to 2009.

Then, the cause became clear: remains of version 10 were still there, as the ACRONIS CLEAN UP program detected the V10 still running. So i removed that too with options "remove all acronis products"

I removed it too, did the registry clean with ccleaner, removed all temp, rebooted and installed version 2009. no problems this time!

So it is clear to me that the upgrade in 2007 from version 10 to 11 was not done properly by the installer of V11, causing big troubles now...

anyway I am up and running again..

added: you may have to run the microsoft msi cleanup program.

I also read somewhere that creating a new user as admin, install the program for all users  and after that delete the user solved the issue.

32 bit vista,

I have exactly the same problem as Eric upgrading from V11 to 2009

I have followed his procedure but also deleting Acronis Disc Director as well.

All of the previous versions i.e. 11 and before have installed without any problems.

I've spent a few hours with technical support who now seem to have abandoned me.

Having followed Erics procedure and still having the same problem does anyone please have any suggestions.

I added two more hints to my previous reply.

It is fairly sure that it has got something to do with the install/uninstall from the past versions so be sure you remove all traces from previous installations.

good luck!

Just a note regarding uninstalling - Look up RevoUninstaller (freeware) - it analyses then runs the normal uninstall procedure for whichever product and scans the registry and disk afterwards. Say No to any system restart request and Revo will display any leftovers in the registry. I think TI11 left me with over 200 entries. You can examine the keys and select or just select all and delete them. It then displays any leftover files and you can delete them in the same way. You can then reboot the system if required and hey presto, a full uninstall with no nasties hanging about.

Eric Thank you for your tips and help ------- It Worked !!

After weeks of frustration and a few hours on the phone I (or you) got it installed in just a few minutes.

Creating a new admin user as you suggested let the installation complete with no problems.

Its now up and running.

Thanks again Eric

Thanks for your reply Sparky.

Although Erics tip on creating a new Admin User wrked for me I have downloaded RevoUninstaller and it does look good.
