2010 progress suggestion

Thread needs solution

It would be super nice if better progress indicator was made available. Example I use Syncback Pro for other backup activities and it has a SUPER nice progress indicator. Example it tells me how many bytes/files are to be process, how many have been process and how many remain. This information is continually updated until the operation is completed.

I'm currently runing a restore where I selected files and folders as the recovery action. The process has been running for about 5 hours and the current estimate to complete is 23 hours.

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Products

Thank you for your feedback, I will create a special case and forward your request to our customer listening system. Using Acronis True Image Home 2009 you can see estimated size of the backup which is going to be created but not the time. You can check it in Backup Options -> Compression window while creating a backup.

Does the progress bar work in TI2010 or is it like the totally useless and erroneous indication that you get in TI2009?

Upgraded (??) or at least installed TI Home 2010 bld 5055, 6 Oct 2009. Win XP SP3.

Several issues with Operation Progress display.
a) Minor vision issues, use larger fonts. In the Current operation scroll box can only see 1 line of text.
b) Current operation progress bar is working okay.
c) Total progress bar doesn't work.
d) Remaining time doesn't work.

Tasks & Log
Unscheduled tasks
Running... Completed 0%
Even with the current operation showing over 80%

The whole UI seems to suffer from my larger font issue, need this for vision issues. Will need to test with normal fonts back on and default desktop.
Options Home, Backup, Recovery and so on + Tasks Management (above the task calendar) + Logs and the text Event Log are all overly big.

Backup log for v2009 shows a job from start to finish 20 mins. Same job after 2010 took 30 mins from start to creating 2nd archive, job complete was 80 minutes.

Save logs error.
TI Home 2010 bld 5055, 6 Oct 2009. Win XP SP3.

Select a single log header line, Save works.

Select a single log header line, Save All.
Failed to save log entry to file "C:\temp\logs.log".
File was created, contents look okay.

The progress indicator in Acronis True Image was broken in 2009 and remains so in their 2010 version. It was broken under XP Pro, Vista Pro 64 bit and is still broken under Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. As far as I can tell it has been broken for well over 2 years looking thru the postings and Knowledge Base. I suspect they don't know how to fix it and that is why they continue to make the same stupid recommendation - if the job completes okay ignore it. Well they are ignoring the fact that we NEED to know if the job has started and gone beyond initialization and where in the overall time/size the job stands Otherwise who knows WHAT is going on? I suggest we get this out all over Facebook & Twitter and see if that gets their attention. Obviously all the users suffering with this major defect are being ignored.

Couldn't agree more. I'm trialling 2010 and I'm in the middle of an inc backup. Time remaining is 6 min, no 18 min, no it's 39 min, oh, wait - it's back to 8....etc.

At the weekend I started a full backup and the time said 6 hours. That was OK to run overnight before I set off for work the next morning. Got up 8 hours later - still 11 hours to run (it's a 260GB disk - why does it take 19 hours?). Up to now I've been pretty happy with Acronis - but the fact that they can't fix simple stuff like telling me whether I can complete a backup before I next need to get on the road means that I'm going to look to see if there are better products out there. The fact that they drop support for what is essentially the same product with a different UI is also pretty annoying.

Acronis True Image Home 2009:
I had been bothered with the absence of a progress bar in Acronis 2009. When I tried to get some information two things happened.
1. The first response was that there should be an Acronis icon in the Systray. Of course there is no icon there.
That information from Acronis was FALSE.
2. When I responded with a screen shot of Acronis during backup, the next response was that I would have to BUY a support plan. Support is only free for 30 days after purchase. As if one would note such problems on first use.

Conclusion: India based support is flaky, as usual. I better find a more suitable trouble free back up program.
I guess I shall revert to the FREE Western Digital LifeGuard program that came with my external backup hard drive.

It is a pity that an apparently decent program supplier screws up so badly and then fails to fix it when there are multiple complaints about it from people who can see problems and take the time to define them. Acronis is getting to be like Microsoft; that is the worst insult I can manage.
