2010 recovery media : small issue "Turn off computer" doesn't work in certain scenario
Short version: what command is actually issued when one hits the "Turn off computer" button from the Acronis boot loader menu in the recovery CD? What could cause it to fail when clicked?
Long version: This issue doesn't actually impact the intended application, but is more of a, "Ï wonder why that's so...".
When booting using the 2010 recovery media, at the Acronis boot loader menu selection, the "Turn off computer" option doesn't work on a certain computer. When I click it, it actually seems to proceed immediately to load Acronis True Image, as though I didn't click the "Turn off computer" at all. So I rebooted and tried the Ctrl-F4 shortcut: same result! it just skipped and booted into Acronis True Image 2010.
At first I thought was just a bug, so I tried the same CD in another (second) computer; it indeed worked, it powered off. I tried it in another (third) computer and it too, worked.
- Gigabyte EP45-UD3 (P45/ICH10) (first computer, the one I noticed this behaviour on)
- verified a backup 'ticked the shutdown after complete button : succesfully powered off
- cannot click "Turn off computer" option from Acronis boot menu.
- changed boot parameter to remove quiet - then at the shell, I issued poweroff command and the system shutdown sucessfully.
- Gigabyte EG41M-S2H (G41/ICH7) (second computer)
- verified a backup 'ticked the shutdown after complete button : succesfully powered off
- can click "Turn off computer" option from Acronis boot menu : succesfully powered off
- changed boot parameter to remove quiet - then at the shell, I issued poweroff command and the system shutdown sucessfully.
- Gigabyte EP35-DS4 (P35/ICH9) (third computer)
- verified a backup 'ticked the shutdown after complete button : succesfully powered off
- can click "Turn off computer" option from Acronis boot menu : succesfully powered off
- changed boot parameter to remove quiet - then at the shell, I issued poweroff command and the system shutdown sucessfully.
so there's just an odd one out.
I then replaced ATI 2010 CD with the old v10 and repeated the above tests (with the exception of the first one, verifying a backup). I got the same results as above, that I can turn off the second and third computer from the boot loader menu. On the first computer (i.e. troublesome one), I get a different result: immediately upon trying to execute the "Turn off computer", it get an error message and beep:
Acronis Loader: Unable to run Boot menu.
Press <Enter> to continue...
If I hit enter, it continues to load Acronis (just like 2010 automatically appears to do so). Any ideas as to what would cause the Gigabyte EP45-UD3 system to fail powering off when that boot menu option is clicked?

Hi Alexander,
No problem. I don't expect an instant reply as I'm a trial user at this stage.
Regarding the command, just to confirm, I'm referring to the 'Acronis Loader' menu where you first interact to select whether you want to load the "Full" version, or continue to load windows. On the bottom left of screen there's the "Turn off computer" option with an XP-style power button graphic. This is the option which doesn't work. I have confirmed with another user with similar Gigabyte motherboard and the same issue is present. In addition, I've asked someone else with a separate manufacturer's board to test the option and it does work, so I'm of the opinion it's some sort of compatibility issue with the bootloader perhaps... and the power management used when one clicks the "Turn off computer".
However, just to note, if I select load Acronis True Image (Full) from the boot menu, and select a task (e.g. verify a preexisting backup) and tick the 'shutdown when complete' tick-box, the system does shutdown as expected, so this element is no problem, just curious as to why the boot loader option doesn't work.
As mentioned, this is just a trial so I can't register. However, there has been no major problems so a purchase is likely in the next fortnight as i'll be buying it for someone else.
Are we on the same page, i.e. is poweroff used in the bootloader menu for the "Turn off computer" boot-menu option too?
Thanks.

No luck Alexander; sent detailed reply via PM.
Just for a visual display, attached is what I refer to as the small issue.
Cheers
