2012 doesn't recognize backup settings from previous backup

I have numerous backup archives from TIH 2011, all setup as incremental. I just updated to TIH 2012. All the backups show up in 2012 but When I hit the "backup now button" they backup with a new full backup instead of an incremental to the original backup. Is this normal and can I get 2012 to increment the original full backup? Would appreciate any assistance.
