2013 will not overwrite existing file in single version

Thread needs solution

Hi All
Newbie here. I am at this moment in time somewhat disillusioned with this program. I have tried and tried to perform a full backup of my C:\ drive to a second hard drive D:\. Both are 1T drives. The backup is around 500mb so two files will not fit on my D:\ drive. As i understand it the program in single version mode should automatically overwrite the existing file. This does not happen and it all ways fails with a disk full message. What am i doing wrong please? Help would be very much appreciated on this issue.
Thank you for reading this

TI will not overwrite the old backup. Instead, it makes a replacement copy (additional space needed) and after the creation of the replacment, then it will delete the old file.

Thus, the result for you is a disk full message as two backups are attempted to be stored.

If you want to use your D drive, you will need to delete the old backup before the new backup is created. This can be done by using the program to perform a manual delete, or write a batch file to do the same; or use the Chain2Gen helper program is perform the control the backups and perform the prior deletes.

Thanks for the reply GroverH. I did some extensive research on the forum (yes i realize i should have done that before!) and found that the application actually needs the space to create 2 complete backups and then it will delete the original. When selecting the option to do a single version scheme it says "This program creates a single full backup version, and overwrites it every time" This is not true as overwrite is NOT DELETE. Surely overwrite means that it replaces the existing. Technically i suppose it does. But I now understand what is being said but it would be better if it was explained in a better way. Thanks for your help and advice. It is people like you that make life a little more bearable using computer applications.
