1. to get fast access to your lost file: boot from Acronis Rescue Media (CD or USB media) and extract your file.

2. ATI2015 should not crash. I suggest to reinstall ATI2015 build 6613 (latest build). Instructions are given in http://kb.acronis.com/content/48668 . Be shure to follow these instructions exactly step by step. Especially do not forget to remove the mentioned registry entries.

gps_dr,

Based on your initial write up, it is difficult to determine how you tried to select the file.

Probably the best and fastest way to recover an individual file is the "Mount" the image, which assigns a drive letter to each selected partition.

To Mount the image, navigate to the image location using Windows Explorer, then right click on the tib file to mount...image 1 below.

Then select mount...image 2 below.

This will bring up an ATI 2015 menu where you can select which partition to mount...image 3 below.  I have selected the C:\ partition, which will be mounted as G:\ drive.

Mounting can take several minutes, especially if there are numerous incremental files which have to be analyzed by ATI in order to complete the Mount.

Upon success, ATI shows a "Drive Letter Assigned" popup window...image 4 below.

Image 5 shows the mounted image as drive G:\.  You can then navigate to the file you want to recover and copy the file and past it to your desired location.

If you get any error messages while performing the mount, please get a screen capture and post it.  It will help us analyze your problem.
