480GB SSD shows as 4TB drive when trying to clone cannot exclude any files - weird!

Thread needs solution

Running Windows 8.1
Just purchased a 480GB Kingston SSD V300 which came packaged with Acronis software for drive cloning.
I have installed the SSD in a spare bay and am booting into Acronis on Startup. THE HD is 1TB and has around 80GB on C Drive and 520GB on D Drive.

So once selected, the cloning software points out I need another 160GB. So, I click on files to exclude them from the clone process. This is where the problem starts:

As soon as I select any file to exclude on wither the C or D drive, regardless of file size (I can select a 10KB file or the entire D Drive) the SSD capacity changes from showing 0.44GB and requiring an additional 0.16GB and shows as having 4TB and requiring 1020TB (!!!)

I noticed when searching around that the drive had not been "initialized" so I have done that through Computer management but it has made no difference.

I have attached photos to show an example of the problem.
Cannot find any solution - any suggestions??

Review carefully all information in this link. You should be able to resolve your issue.

Hi Robert, I have already tried following this guide but I get to the step where I need to exclude items from cloning and run into this issue, whether I use Exclude by masks or exclude by files and folders. The disk capacity shows as completely incorrect as soon as I select anything for exclusion and I am unable to continue the process.

Are you running TI from the Win 8.1 environment or from a Bootable Media Disc?

Do you have the destination disk attached to the same port/connector that the source disk was attached to?

Have you tried using the instructions to migrate from larger HDD to smaller SSD?

Are you using a USB connection anywhere when attempting to do the clone?

Running from Bootable media disk.
Not sure about the port connector - I followed the hardware instructions in a Kingston video to install the SSD.
Followed migration instrcutions but dont want to migrate the entire contents of the drive as one folde ron there is around 500GB which I dont need (nor can I fit) on the SSD but trying to exclude anything from the clone is where the problem arises.
No USB connections.

So then what you need to accomplish is to move the contents of the C partition which now exists on your current installed drive in your laptop to your new SSD?

You say that you have connected the new SSD per the manufacturers instructions, is it attached to an internal connector within your laptop?

Did you use the Add New Disk function of TI before your attempts to using clone?

Hi, I am installing the SSD on a desktop.

Yes - Only really interested in having the C drive on the SD but am unable to exclude the D drive (or any files on the C or D drive without prompting the disk values to change and shopw as incorrect.)

The SSD is attached to a power source and to a SATA plug and is detected in BIOS and in Device manager and computer manager. I have also initialized the SSD in computer manager although it has not been assigned a drive letter.

I did not use or see an "Add new disk function" The steps taken were "Select language" the from the "What would you like to do?" menu I selected "Clone disk" This is following the supplied instructions in the PDF on the disk.

Thanks for your assistance so far.

OK, to clone the C partition you would do the following:

1. With computer off attach the data cable now attached to your current to the new disk and attach another cable from another SATA port on the motherboard to the current drive.

2. Using the Bootable Media Disk you created boot to the TI app.

3. choose Add New Disk. - This will initialize the and make the disk bootable.

4. Select the Source Disk/Partition in this case you will need to choose the C partition only of the current disk.

5. Select the Destination/Target Disk - Your new SSD.

6. Clone

This should work.

Do not clone. Make a backup of your current disk. You don't need the D:\partition but you need any hidden partition on the disk that ATI will see (you can do the backup in Windows).
Then boot the computer on the recovery CD and restore only the hidden partitions and the C:\partition.
