Access denied to folder on Buffalo NAS

Thread needs solution

I am trying to backup a network connection that is located on a Buffalo NAS.  I am logged in as Adminstrator on both my local computer and the NAS.  When I try and backup a shared folder on the NAS I get the following error, that brings to this page, "48578: Acronis True Image Errors Out with "Access to the file or folder is denied. (0x40014)"

It stated that I have to go to Edit connection settings, but there are none.  So how do I get around this?  I literly have not connection settings option for this.

Louis,

I am using ATI2016, but I believe the following steps will also work on ATI2015.

I do not map my NAS or any NAS folders to a drive letter.

I am not logged into my NAS while following these steps.  However, I log into my NAS prior to ATI to make sure the NAS is on and functioning.

From ATI main menu...Select Destination.  Picture 1

Then Select Browse.  Picture 2

Then Click On NAS, mine is shown on Network.  Yours may be on NAS connections.  Then click the right arrow.  Picture 3

This should bring up a popup window to input the NAS username and NAS password.  Picture 4

I am hopeful this will work for you.  Please let me know if this works.

Regards,

FtrPilot

This does not work for me.  I am trying to backup files from the NAS to my external drive.  I removed the maps but my computer know the ID and login for this NAS, and therefore I am never asked a box to log in.  When I am browsing for files to backup, it sees the folders and files on the NAS.  Then when I start the backup job I get this error, see picture.

Louis,

My misunderstanding...

I will try to backup one of my NAS folders and see if I get the same error.

Louis,

When you look at the task in the main menu and the large destination square is displayed,

is the path displayed the same path as the error message which was \\LS-WXL59D

No I am trying to backup a shared sub folder under the NAS.  See the attached picture.  BTW, when I click on \\LS=WXL59D all the shared folders open in Windows Explorer, which shows I have full access to the device.

It would appear there is a possibility of a file error that relates to some file within the many folders of Digital Camera.

YOu might want to consider doing a disk check for file errors on your nas.

I used the built in software to check the drive.  I saw no messages and got no response.  However I created a new job to backup a different shared folder and it is working.

Thank you

Today I tried to backup a completely different shared folder and we are back to the original problem.  The software needs to have a spot for me to enter credentials.  It is not asking me for them at all.

I almost lost a file today becuase I cannot backup my NAS.  Can someone please diagnose this problem for me. My PC can see the NAS, I am attached as the administrator yet Acronis can view it, but when it tries to actually back it up it fails.  And I do not have the opertunity to enter credentials.

Can I please get some help with this issue.  When creating a new backup Acronis can navigate to my attached NAS, it can see all the subfolders, but when I click on the backup now it says unknown user.  How can this be?  There is no area for me to provide login credentials.  This software is useless if you cannot backup your files.

Hello, Louis

* What build of True Image do you have?

* What operating system are you using?

* If I understood your previous messages correctly, this does not happen with all files and directories on the NAS, but rather with specific ones?

* As to the login credentials, you could try removing them from the Windows Credential Manager and see if after that True Image promts you for the password.

Windows Professional 7.

See System Report for build inforamation.

it happens whenever I want to backup from the NAS.  Once it somehow backed up but i think it hung at the end.

Deleted the login credentials and got the same error.

Louis,

Do you know which account on the Buffalo NAS that ATI is using?  If so, you could log onto the Buffalo NAS as administrator and change the password for that account.  When I do that for my Synology NAS, ATI asks for login credentials.

Have you looked at the permissions for the top level folder?  Does the account that ATI is using have full read permissions in that folder?  I believe it is possible to set permissions for a user to see the file listing, but not be able to read the files, which may be happening in your situation.

I deleted the windows account information for this connection.  This morning I tried to backup again, same error.  I tried to access the drives through windows explore and Windows asked for account credentials which I supplied and was able to connect.  I tried the backup again and it failed.

My real issue is that the instructions state there is a way to provided Login and Password credentials throught Acronis yet I do not have that option.  So obviously my PAID for software is missing something.  At this point I would like 1 of 2 things to happen.  Either a support person connects remotely to my system to see the problem first hand and fix it, or provide me with a free upgrade to the next version which hopefully will fix my issue.  To add insult to injury I keep getting emails asking me to upgrade my version.  I have paid for this subscription for several years, however when I need it most it does not work, so why would I continue to pay for it?

Louis

Louis,

It is possible that you have a bad installation of ATI.  So, at this point, the best way to proceed is to log onto the Acronis web site and download the latest version of ATI2015.  Then uninstall ATI 2015 from your computer.  For the uninstall, use the process describe link below.

https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668

Included in the link is another link to download a cleanup utility.  You should download the utility and follow the instructions in the link above.

Once the uninstall is complete, reboot your computer...then install ATI 2015.  After the install, you will have to setup new backup tasks.

I followed your directions.  Started Acronis and selected the NAS to backup.  It told me I needed to provide credentials.  I signed in and now it is backing up my data.

Thank you for your help.

Louis,

I am really glad this resolved your problem.  Thanks for hanging in there & thanks for closing the loop.

Although my connection problem seems to be fixed it is now running for 5 hours and only backed up 31.42GB.  I will probably have to cancel this job.  it seems to get hung up, and the lights on the external drive are not flashing like it does when I backup my local drives.  This is not usable if it requires a full day to backup only 1 section of my NAS.
