Access to my Acronis backups

Thread needs solution

I am running an older version of Acronis (Acronis 2010).  I recently tried to use the Try and Decide feature.  It crashed my computer and I wasn't able to restore it from the Acronis backups.  I had a different backup method that came with the computer and used it to restore the computer; it didn't preserve my data. I set myself up as Administrator when I did the restore. I then reinstalled  Acronis 10 and specified that any user could use it.  Following this I mounted an Acronis drive from the backup.   When I try to access the owner or Administrator or User folder I get the message that "You currently don't have permission to  access this folder". Even when I click the "Continue" button to permanently get access to this folder I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".  I click the Security button and don't know how to proceed.  This is my personal computer and I need to recover my documents that are in these backups.  Can someone help me?

Michael,

The permissions issue on your folders is caused by the unique identifier for your user account being different to the one used on your system when you created the backup image, even though you may have created a user with exactly the same name etc.

Please see KB document: 1520: Access Denied to Restored Files or Folders which the ATIH 2010 User Guide manual links to i Section 23.4 Recovery Issues where it states:

You cannot get access to recovered files or folders
After recovering files/folders with Acronis True Image you get "Access denied" message when trying to access them. To solve the issue, see the Acronis Support KB article "Access Denied to Files or Folders Restored with Acronis True Image" by clicking the following link: http://kb.acronis.com/content/1520.

See also KB document: 1549: When Trying to Explore Certain Folders of a Mounted Image Archive, Access Denied Message Appears which is linked from the first document and deals with your specific situation.

The key point here is that you will need to restore your data / documents from the backup but ensure that you do not restore the security / permissions of that data when doing so.
