Acronis 11 & 13 - Stuck in a Loop!

Thread needs solution

My wife has a new computer running Windows 8. I tried to do a backup using Acronis 11, bit it turned out to be incompatible with Windows 8. So I bought a brand-new boxed copy of Windows 8-compatible Acronis 13 which said it would install automatically over Acronis 11. But halfway through it said it could not proceed until I had uninstalled Acronis 11 - which I tried to do. But Acronis 11 will not uninstall because bits of it (or Acronis 13) are still active. I have tried using Task Manager to shut down Acronis 11, but that doesn't work. Nor can I simply delete the Acronis 11 program as a whole because it's still running.
So I can't get rid of Acronis 11 to let 13 install and I can't install 13 until I get rid of 11. Help! Unless I get this sorted out in the next few days Acronis 13 is going back to Amazon for a refund and a one-star rating.

Which version of Acronis are you referring to when you say version 11?

Do you mean version 2011, or version 11 (much older)?

Neither of these products are supported on Windows 8.

There is a cleanup utility for removal of 2011-2013 available that could possibly help in this situation.
It is located here: http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876
Although not specifically noted to work with v11 (older version), it should still help.
Please follow the instruction carefully, and do not let the utility reboot your system when it is finished.
Check both the referenced registry entries for any needed changes per the instruction provided.
If you need any help with this procedure, please ask here.

Also before you install 2013 again, after running the cleanup utility and editng the necessary registry entries, open the users temporary files folder in Windows 8 by pressing the Windows start key to get to the Startup Screen (Tiles) and typing without quotes %temp% and pressing enter. This will open the users temporary files folder. Delete everything you can (files and folders) skipping any in use files. Then install 2013.

Be sure if you install any additional software on the Windows 8 system, that the software requirements are met and support Windows 8 as an operating system.
