acronis 2010 horrors

Thread needs solution

My computer was refusing to complete a bootup, so, to cut a very long story short, I re-installed a back up from 2 months ago to be sure of getting rid of the problem. The idea was to re-instate the C and E partitions (E is programmes) andleave the F partition as it was, with all my data intact. C re-install was OK, but E was installed on both the E and F partitions, wiping my data! Closer examination showed that the E and F partitions had also been switched. Having remedied this with partition Magic, I tried to re-install F correctly, but kept getting the message that Acronis had to reboot to do it, then it said it couldn't. Manual reboot at this stage had no effect. Pre-formatting F also had no effect. Have now recovered everything by recovering the F data from the same backup file to another drive, then copying it over, but what a faff!

In your situation, rather than restore individual partitions, checkmarking the disk restore option would have restored all your drives back in their original positions and user not involved in the choices. Also having a disk option backup (all partitions included in the backup) makes it very easy to perform a disk option restore (all partitions).

Whenever you are restoring you system partitions, it is recommended that it be done when booted from the TI Rescue CD.
