Acronis 2012 No Longer Works

After I upgraded to 2012 version, backups became quite slow, taking a day or two to run. After a couple of backups, it started taking so long to run, I just quit. The backup was about 600 gb of data on a Win 7 machine. I removed the program from Windows, reinstalled and tried just backing up Drive C, about 200 GB but the backup failed with the message "terminated by time out." In the past, Acronis 2010 worked quite well, backing up my boot and data drives overnight. Does anybody have any ideas what to do? If I don't get a solution, I'm going to remove the program and forget about it. I probably won't get another drive image backup program as they generally don't get good reviews.

Computer is HP Pavilion Elite 12 GB RAM, I 7-933 processor, 300 GB 10K boot disk with three partitions, the other two small, and a 640 GB data drive.
