Acronis 2014 will not backup to to our filer

We have no problems with Acronis 9 which maps to the filer using the unc path without any problems.

Acronis 2014 and the trail version of 2015 are extremely slow and often disconnect. The first problem is that they'll sit there for 20 minutes calculating and then either time out or if they do start backing up they are extremely slow suggesting days for what under Acronis 9 is a ten minute backup and even then may suddenly give up giving an error which isn't in the Acronis knowledge base.

The filer in question is
NetApp's Data ONTAP software: NetApp Release 8.1.4P1 7-Mode

The "7-Mode" indicates that we're running the filers in '7 Mode' rather than Cluster Mode

we have tried writing to the share both via a DFS path and directly to the filer with the same result.

Mapping to a share on windows pc and doing the same backup and there isn't a problem.

So what does Acronis 2014 and 2015 dislike about the filer?
