We would need to know the error of the media to provide more useful information.  Could be a bad media creation (disk/cd/dvd)? Perhaps the settigs in their bios need to be tweaked to allow booting to external media (turn of secure boot / change the bios boot order / enable csm/legacy mode) - could be lots of reasons.

What kind of disk is in the laptop - what kind of laptop?  Newer PCIE NVME hard drives are not being picked up via the default Linux bootable media as drivers are not included.  You may need to download Windows 10 ADK, and after installing, create your bootable media with the WinPE option instead of the default Linux option.  That should allow any current PCIE NVME drives to be detected by the bootable media.
