Acronis 2015 Win 8, Win 8.1, Win 10 compatibility a myth??

Thread needs solution

First, let me say that I have been using Acronis True Image since 2001, before that I used Norton Ghost which proved too corruptible. Have used ATI 7.0, 10.0, 2009, 2010, 2011. All great products. Never had a problem. Saved my life many a time!! The problems began with ATI 2013, which kept producing "ghost" backups; no matter how I deleted them, they kept showing up after being deleted. ATI 2015 makes backups fine, but cannot perform restores/recovery.

Just ordered Acronis 2015 Unlimited for 3 PC's. I only use the "full" backup method to backup the entire computer. Had to return for refund an earlier version of 2015 last year because it was unable to restore its own backups in Windows 7. This new build #6613 seems to work fine in Win 7, but not in Win 8.1 Full system backups work great, validate great, but I cannot recover any of the backups. Bootable rescue disk will not work either. During Recovery ATI 2015 attempts to restart, but instead just hangs up and freezes while "starting Acronis UEFI loader" Well, their loader just doesn't work.

Contacted ATI tech support via chat today, and they tell me that now that I must disable the UEFI secure boot function, and go back to the old legacy bios settings. None of this was spelled out in the users guide or any Acronis marketing media. If the software is Win 8.1, Win 10 compatible, why should I have to disable the secure boot function, which is there to protect against low, root-level malware infection?? I have also been reading that Win 10 will make it impossible to disable the secure boot function, so what are we do then??

Thinking I could avoid having to disable the secure boot function in Win 8.1, I activated the Acronis Recovery Manager, pressed F11 on bootup. Well, that wiped out my brand new HP laptop. Now I cannot start windows at all. All I get is another message "Starting Acronis UEFI loader........which NEVER loads. Guess I will have will have to pay another $200 to get a Windows 10 installation disk, hoping it is bootable and reformat the hard drive. Needless to say I don't think I will be installing ATI on any of my other computes for awhile. Anybody out there know any good 3rd party imaging sotware, which has solved the UEFI secure boot problem?

Thomas,

I'm having the same problem. I have Windows 10... And can't find anywhere on Acronis "support" that helps... it only directs me to these forums... I guess in almost 3 years the problem still exists. I guess I'll find another company's program.

It should be supported. I've used it with Windows 7/8.1/10 beta in UEFI mode without issue.

What is not working? Did you upgrade from an earlier version and/or your OS while Acronis was already installed? What version of 2015 do you have installed of 2015?

Perhaps run the ATIH clean tool and fresh install after that and see if it helps in your case?

I just read that you're using ASRM... That is indeed an issue with UEFI systems even still in 2016. Is there a specific need for  ASRM? You could use Windows permissions, Windows folder encryption (not bitlocker) and/or a dedicated backup drive and ditch ASRM on a  UEFI install and all will work. I realize some people prefer ASRM but it is an unnecessary layer of complication that does cause issues on UEFI builds... The same can be achieved without ASRM and will result in a better experience (in my opinion - perhaps not yous though).
