Acronis 6.0 or others

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

Before I searching until I am purple, I thought I would just ask the question here. The answer may be a simple "Not gonna happen." Which will make me go another direction.

What I have is this. And yes it is the year 2015............... but it is necessary for me.

I have a Windows 98SE machine that I am using for some proprietary software. I have and use Acronis 6.0 on the machine and it works great. Has saved my butt a few times. However, currently the machine has a few issues that tell me I need to think of worst case plans.

Before I attempt this process I would like to know the following.

1) If I purchase an older machine that will run Windows 98SE can I load my current .tib file on to the C: drive from my existing?? Will it work?? Will it fail??

2) Is there an Acronis product that will do the above that will run on a Windows 98SE system and have that ability to transfer the OS and programs??

I also have a Acronis 2012 version on a Windows XP machine.
I really need to stay with the Windows 98SE OS for this application.
The software will not run on anything newer.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the above.

Have a good day.

Hello,

I would TEST by using your TIH recovery disc and make an image of your current OS.
Then pwr off, remove the original OS disk, replace it with a new "test" disk, boot the machine with your recovery disk and recovery your image to the new disk.
If the new disk boots and everything is ok then your all set....
If this WinSE system is so important, I am amazed that you have not tried a recovery already.
I tested each of my machines, XP, Win 7 and Win8.1 with that procedure using a test disk and verified that everything worked before I was comfortable with my recovery plan.

Let us know how it works out...

Steve

Hi Steve,

"If this WinSE system is so important, I am amazed that you have not tried a recovery already."

This system is important however I do not have a second WIN98SE machine to play with.................. as yet.
I have restored the current machine a couple of times due to crashed drives. Just picked up another drive and reloaded
by the use of the latest Acronis backup file. That is not a problem.

What I am wondering is................. IF I purchase a new machine that is capable of running WIN98SE
but it will be a different motherboard with a different processor, etc. Will or can the Acronis file be
loaded on the new machine?? Since I don't have said machine I can't test it so I was hoping for
a hint of is it possible or a lost cause.

This existing machine is having some issues which are giving me a hint of impending doom. I am hoping that it will work
since re-building a new machine from scratch will be a huge challenge to say the least.

Thanks for the response. Hope I have explained my question better.

As a side note. I checked the "Notify me when new comments are posted"
However, I never received a email of your post. Isn't that to be automatic or
is there something else I need to check?? Thanks!!
