Acronis 8 disaster

Thread needs solution

I setup a laptop for my daughter with Acronis 8 (ex my own laptop).
She is now abroad and attempted to do her first backup recently and wanted to backup an external drive onto her C drive. I suspect that she has accidentally cloned her external drive over her operating system and all. Is there any way this disaster can be undone?

Hello Mary Consolvo,

Thank you very much for your post. I will be happy to help.

Can you please clarify the following. She used the clone procedure to clone her external drive to her C: drive. During this operation, our software asked for a reboot most probably. After rebooting, she followed through with the procedure and after that, when she tried to boot her Operating system, it would not because of an error message. How long did the clone operation last?

If this is the case, unless you have a valid backup of the Operating system, I am afraid this cannot be undone. I am very sorry for this.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,
Thanks for your reply. I think I knew what the answer would be - she never did a back up, silly girl. I just wondered if any of these recovery programs would rescue anything for her? - possibly a little - but getting her to remove her hard drive is unlikely so she has just learned a hard lesson.

Hello Mary Consolvo,

Thank you for getting back to me. I am very sorry for disappointing you, Acronis software cannot do anything at this point because there was no valid backup. There are of course, third party utilities that allow to recover data, but from my experience, it is a painstaking and an expensive procedure without a 100% guarantee of success.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Thank you.
