Acronis and two identically cloned computers

Thread needs solution

I created a base image system (Machine1), with Acronis already configured on it. I then deployed that image to a second machine (Machine2) and renamed that machine. Neither system is on a domain, both are standalone in WORKGROUP.

When the True Image Console connected to the second machine it reports back the log from the first machine.

This indicated to me that there must be something wrong with the installation on Machine2. My guess: some kind of identifier (?) that was copied when I cloned the machine was causing the Acronis server to see Machine2 as Machine1.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the client. No luck.

I then went through the registry and ripped out whatever I could Acronis-related. Reinstalled, no joy.

Can anyone describe what's going on?

Thanks,
Joe

You will have difficulties if you use any version of TI to install a system image from one machine onto another. You would need the plus pack to 'clone' an image to a different machine. What is going on is that the image on the 2nd machine still thinks it is on the original machine, so there will be all sorts of conflicts regarding drivers, network info, and all sorts.

Thanks Bin, but that's not exactly what happened. Let me clarify:

1. Created base machine, including an installation of the Acronis TI Enterprise client
2. Created an image of that base machine, using Norton Ghost.
3. Deployed the Ghost image to a second machine
4. Second machine cannot communicate with Acronis server
5. Removed Acronis TI Enterprise client from second machine
6. Ripped out all instances of Acronis from registry from second machine
7. Reinstalled onto second machine
8. Still sees second machine as first (base) machine as described

There has to be a way to rip Acronis out completely from the second machine so that it can appear as its own system on the Acronis Server.

Thanks,
Joe

You are welcome Joe. I know nothing of the TI Enterprise client or Ghost, and it sounds like you have good knowledge of how stuff like this works (or should/might) and I think others including Acronis here will need more information about your whole set up especially the network and what it is you are trying to achieve. I'm a little confused as to points 5, 6 and 7 - especially the reinstallation onto second machine. See this link to start with.

Steps 5, 6, 7 are troubleshooting steps I took on the second machine, trying to rip out Acronis client completely and reinstall it.

You may have better luck getting a response in one of the other Acronis forums since you are using an Enterprise version. You have posted in the True Image Home forum. The Home version does not do client/console. You didn't say exactly which Acronis product you are using (Enterprise Server?), but it's possible that the name has changed in newer versions. You might want to look at the Backup and Recovery forum.
