Acronis Boot Disc
I just did a sucessfull recovery of my system. I think the old hard drive was shot. I had heard it making scaping kind of noises over the last two months. The noise would last about a minute and then stop. Tonight, the monitor turned off but the power was on. I turned it offf and it would not boot even into the safe mode. I had this happen several times over the last week but it would boot up. Tonight, during one of the failed attepts to boot I got a note that said Windows sytem 32 needs to be reinstalled. I tried the recovery disc and it would boot to Acronis home but the screen would go black before I could locate the the backup source. I had cloned the C drive (with an exact sixed hard drive) about a seven months ago and removed the old C drive and put the clone in. It booted up quickly. Then I did a restore from my last backup.
Can you put a new hard drive that had not been formatted and use a recovery disc to boot up. Will Acronis see the unformatted drive and restore it? Or will it work with a formatted hard drive that is empty?

At least in older versions of ATI you sometimes had to initialize a hdisk in win, but not format, to do a restore to it.
