Acronis claims new partition won't be bootable if it's GPT
Hi,
I'm using seagate diskwizard to clone my old hard drive to a SSD. I gather diskwizard is based on acronis, so I'm posting here! The old partition is MBR - diskwizard gives me the option of converting it to GPT during the clone, but it says that it won't be bootable. I'm wunning windows 7 x64 on a EFI system, so why does diskwizard say it won't be bootable - is this a limitation of the cloning/conversion process?
Thanks!

I see the message all the time and I ignore it, typically because I booted the Acronis True Image disc from a standard BIOS boot rather than a UEFI boot. Some BIOS support both boot options and True Image may be suggesting that with your current BIOS settings' booth method, the target drive may not boot. But if your hard drive is set to boot UEFI, I'd expect you can ignore that.
The previous link explains this with more detail in a more technical way but I figured I'd offer a simpler alternative.

Thanks for the info both of you, however I booted the USB stick in EFI mode, my BIOS supports EFI & the OS supports EFI, so according to that table it should be bootable. I've done the cloning now - I did it as MBR to ensure it was bootable, but I'd like to know whether to believe the message or not in the future!

The message is a warning. If you machine and setup corresponds with the outline provided in the link supplies then the result should be as the outline states.
