Acronis does not recognize hard disks
Acronis 2010 is not recognizing my hard disks for recovery. I get a series of error message when I launch from the recovery CD. However, after continuing, it sees the disks but they are unidentified. The USB external drive that contains the backup files is totally recognizable, including the folder that contains the tib files. I can load/reinstall windows without any problems and both hard drives (C & D) are recognized without errors. So far, the KB articles are not solving my problem. Does anyone have experience on what I can do. In KB article 1515, the MBR is identified as the problem. However, I am not sure the solutions works in the C drive which is the primary boot drive. I am a bit desparate at this point because I am dependent on Acronis for the backup yet they appear to be the problem. Any thoughts, advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance ...

I am taking a slightly different approach. I decided to load XP SP3, load Acronis True Image Home 2010, and start recovery from there (instead of rebooting). Space on my C drive is ~130GB free with ~4GB consumed by Windows XP & True Image. Also, I am not updating the MBR. Has anyone tried this approach before? Did it work? I could not find this approach in any of the forums of KB articles. Appreciate any input or advice. Thanks again ...

You could also try a BartPE or WinPE recovery CD and see if the drives are recognized.

Starting True Image from Windows and doing a recovery will reboot into Linux anyway, so you may end up in the same place.

Thanks ... the operation reached 50% completion then requested a reboot. I received the same error messages after Acronis True Image was launched. Eventually, the operation continued and is "recovering" from the source file and is on step 2 of 2. Not sure where it will end up but IMHO it is clearly an Acronis issue ... the drives are there, I can access them from Windows, I can even complete True Image restores to "other" disks without any problems. Wonder when they will come out with an update???

Okay ... this approach seemed to work. I have my restored system loading. Not sure what the error messages. When I booted from the disk, True Image could not recognize my C drive. When I tried to restore, it would abort and exit. However, loading an operating system and then installing True Image, I was able to restore from an online format (i.e. not rebooting from the CD), reboot as instructed, still received the same error messages as when I tried to use the boot disk, and the recovery process continued. After the system rebooted, I had my restored version up and running. Thanks for the input and hope this experience will help others with this problem.
