Acronis does not support 64-bits Windows Image backup files
Hello,
I tried to restore a 64-bit Windows Image Backup file but it doesn't seems supported by Acronis.
Will it be fixed or not ?
Thanks

Hello Rufi,
Thank you for using Acronis Products
Can you please clarify the exact title of the program and the build number? You can check all supported OS’s by Acronis True Image programs using this KB article
If the issue persists please clarify it in more details? If there are any error message please give it full description.

Thank you for your replies!
I run the lastest build of TI 2010 , #5055 under windows 7 64 bits.
However, this happens when I try to restore a windows image backup created with Windows 7 (not with Acronis).

If I'm understanding you correctly, Acronis will not restore a Backup made by Windows 7.

Exactly. Acronis will not restore a Backup made by Windows 7 (64 bits). It seems to work for 32-bits versions.

What happens if you convert the VHD file to tib?

I think you have to use the Windows 7 DVD Repair menu to restore from a Windows-made backup; I wouldn't have thought of trying to do it from Acronis myself, since they have different file extensions. Interesting that it works for 32-bit.
But I too have 64-bit. I have just upgraded from TI 10 to TI 2010 for Windows 7 compatibility, but I'm a little confused about the 32-bit/64-bit thing myself. and I'm wondering whether I'd be better off making my images from the Revcovery Disk rather than in Windows...

I am using True Image 2010 build 6029 installed on a 64 bit Windows 7 OS. If I create an image to my SEagate FreeAgentPro HDD (external HDD usb) the image is successfully created and verified. If I try to recover this image using the 'Disaster Recovery CD' I receive a message to the affect that neither the image or format is recognized. This message is the same as I was getting when using True Image 2009.
Fortunately, I also made an image to the same external HDD using the Windows backup program. This image restored the system perfectly.
There appears to be some incompatibility between Win 7 x64 and True Image 2010 that requires urgent attention by Acronis.

Just as an FYI, I have recently used TI 2010--both versions 5055 and 6029--to backup and restore a C drive on a Windows 7 64-bit system. The backups were made to both a network drive, and to a USB drive. The only notable problem I've had has been when booting from the rescue CD, in which case I have not been able to get the program to see my network drives. No problem restoring from the USB drive, though.
I'm adding this note so people will know that not EVERY Win-7 64 bit machine will fail with TI 2010. Though from all the complaints here, it certainly seems to be pretty common. It's likely that hardware configurations and drivers are also involved. Acronis really needs to step in here and let its customers know it's doing something, instead of just letting them whip each other into fits of frustration.

I am beginning to think so. A bad program install caused me to restore to an image I had made of Win 7 x64 with TI 10, before TI 2010 purchase.
I used the recovery CD from TI 2010. It restored fine.
I decided this was a good time to test out tI 2010. I installed build 6029. Install ran OK. I made two backups, one regular, one as 1-click. Both ran without error messages. I restored from one. The restore ran fine, and Win7 booted up. I am now testing backup and restore from external.
Then I'm going back to Windows and do things the way I normally do, which is to make my images from the Recovery Media and install Acronis once I've made my base Restore Image, so that if anything does go amiss with Acronis, I will have an image to restore to with all my other programs but no TI installed yet.
So maybe it is a hardware and/or drivers issue...or maybe I was just lucky this time; I dunno.
Perhaps Acronis can glean something from comparing system configurations of the people it works for and the people it doesn't.
I'll keep this forum posted on my Acronis adventures....
I sure hope they can find out what it is that is causing such havoc, though.
