Acronis doesn't restore all partitions

Thread needs solution

Hi this is my first post and i really hope it can be sorted out as soon as possible... I have a lenovo yoga 2 pro... last 2 weeks it was startting to report to me reagrding hardisk failure... but the computer still can run fine

So, Lenovo have that 6-7 partitions in their system which includes all OEM, One-key and etc...

So i already made a full backup of everything... literally everything including the partitions...

so yesterday i got back my laptop with replaced SSD, i restored back my backup that i previously made to the laptop and amazingly everything is back as it was... but then i noticed.... the partitions... they were all created but inside its empty :O ... why is this happening?

so i checked the contents of the backup file i made (.tib)... and i can see the partition is there and the files that is suppose to be in the partition also there...

but why when i restore it the other partition is empty... im talking about the OEM, One-Key partition.... please help as this is the only backup on the computer i had

attached pic showing all the partition are 100% unused

Hi Fikry Liony,

I never did a Full Drive Backup. I always did one partition at a time. But can you switch to partition mode and restore the partitions, one partition at a time from the Backup?

The Hard Drive Failure might have influenced the reliability of the Backup itself.

ok my windows have 2 partitions C and D which includes the windows as well as my personal files... these partitions are restored perfectly... but there are other partitions that are hidden... like the ones ive mentioned above... so if i plan to to restore one by one.. is it gonna affect my C and D? cause im afraid it will have to delete all the things inside the disk bfore proceed

Hi Fikry Liony,

Then before you proceed, make a Full Backup of C and a Full Backup of D, separately, just in case.
How long ago, did you buy Acronis True Image 2015?

well... i dont need to make a backup of C and D again since the current backup of it is already sufficient enough... i bought it months ago

Hi Fikry Liony,

"96609: Acronis True Image 2016 is available"

" Free Upgrade policy:

If you feel that your current backup is sufficient, then switch to Partitions, rather than Drive Restore.

well thank you for the info on the update, but i dont think updating the software can resolve the probs... but thanks i will keep that in mind ... how do u switch to partition restore... so if u do that.. u click one by one and restore?

Hi Fikry Liony,

If you have more than one image, click on the Image that you want to Restore, first. Now click on Restore Disks, not files, then click at the top Partitions. However, please note that depending on the Computer Display Screen, it is harder to select the partition to restore with 2015 than with 2016.

You don't need to do anything to those partitions. If they were really empty your computer would not boot. They are protected system partitions. They show up the same way on all of my UEFI GPT systems.

You're one key recovery doesn't work because Acronis is incapable of restoring GPT partitions to a new disk in the correct order. There is a 128 MB partition called the Microsoft reserved partition (MSR) that is only visible from the command line diskpart utility or when using disk imaging utilities that actually fully support GPT disks. Acronis always places this partition first on a new disk. It is supposed to be placed in front of the operating system partition. The information in the BCD and the xml files that are used to perform the factory recovery do not match the partition layout of your recovered disk.

OEM recovery tools also usually fail to function on disks that are not exactly the same size as the original disk.

ok that makes a little sense so how can i solve this issue? is there any way? or im stuck with acronis image as my one and only backup?

If you can access these link there is some intereted readings.
The discussions is about more than just 2016 versions.

Is your original disk still accessible for backups?

Access denied on those links :S

and original disk, i dont have it with me anymore... its under warranty so they replaced it

Hi Fikry Liony,

Did they transfer the data over to the new Drive? Were you able to boot up the computer, before you restored the image?

nope.. the new drive is the default of the machine.. nothing is transferred and yes i can boot up bfore i restored the image... now the computer is restored to how it was by using Acronis... well the only thing that doesnt work is the hidden partitions... well the computer works perfectly now though... but still its annoying that it wasnt 100% as it was bfore... guess my only reliable backup is the image from Acronis that i have right now... if i lost that.... i think i lost my computer OEM windows as well? since it was saved in that hidden partition and One Key Recovery is not working

If Lenovo included a utility to create a factory recovery USB drive, you should create one and keep it in a safe place. Otherwise the instructions in the link below can be used to create a USB recovery drive on Windows 8/8.1 which will copy your factory recovery partition to a USB drive so that it can be used to recover your system if your HDD fails again.

Please also use the link below to share your experience with Acronis.

Lenovo doesnt provide utility to create factory recovery USB drive, but i will try to follow that suggested steps and report back later.. thanks... because as far as i know the lastym i tried... the check box is greyed out...

If the check box is grayed out, open an administrator command prompt and type

reagentc /info

Take a screenshot of the results.

yes it is greyed out... :(

Hi Fikry Liony,

You are not running the command line from the Command Prompt (Admin).

You are running it from Command Prompt.

Right-click Start and click Command Prompt (Admin). Now run the Command Line that Joey, told you to run.

Hi Fikry Liony,

I used Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview 32-Bit Build 10532 with Acronis True Image 2016 Build 5586 installed.

I just copied his command and pasted into Command Prompt (Admin). The result is attached.

If reagentc.exe will not run on your computer, that leaves only the more extreme options. It would probably be best just to leave it alone until you actually need to perform another full disk recovery.

ok guess i cant do anything but relies heavily on the backup i made with acronis.. :( thanks anyway for the suggestions and supports :)

and thank you thecreator for the attachment..

well i was thinking if i want to revert back my latop to its default state... how can i do this? with OEM windows since the recovery is not functioning

Hi Fikry Liony,

Who replaced the Hard Drive under warranty?

> so yesterday i got back my laptop with replaced SSD

> i think i lost my computer OEM windows as well? since it was saved in that hidden partition and One Key Recovery is not working

Did you bother to check to see if those partitions were working, before you restored the computer with Acronis?

its still under warranty so the company replaced it... and no i dont bother to check cause im quite confident acronis backup is perfect but oh well..

ok i think i figured out why it cant find the partition... check out the screenshot... u can see that the some partitions in my laptop are labelled "Unknown" instead of "OEM" or "Recovery" that is why the system cant find the said partitions... how to fix this?

A user on the Lenovo forum fixed the reagentc issue by using diskpart to set the partition id of the oem partitions to the correct value. Might be worth a try. On the plus side, your diskpart screen capture shows that the MSR partition is in the correct location.

Use the link above to contact Acronis support. After logging in and selecting your product, it will say that your support program has expired. Click the link next to "To resolve recovery issue" and the chat and email options will become available. It doesn't look like Acronis restored your OEM partitions with the correct properties, and technical support should work directly with you to resolve this issue.
