Acronis fail to load the UEFI loader. System unbootable

Thread needs solution

Greetings all,

Brand new to Acronis.  Purchased a PNY SSD.  Used cloning feature.  New SSD connected via USB.  Software found both drives.  Selected HDD as source, SSD as target.  Accepted defaults.  Per instructions rebooted.  Software started then received the following error:

Starting Acronis UEFI Loader

Runtime error: Error.....

Now all I have is a flashing cursor.

Windows 10, 64 bit

An ideas???

Thanks in advance for your help!

Richard, are you trying to boot your system with both the HDD and SSD both connected after cloning has completed?  If so, this can cause problems because both drives now have the same drive signature.

If you have installed an OEM version of Acronis True Image (provided with your PNY SSD) and have attempted to perform the clone operation from within the Windows Acronis application, then this too can cause problems as it tries to modify the boot loader to create a temporary Linux OS environment from which to load Acronis and perform the clone.

The correct method to perform the clone operation is as follows:

  1. Shutdown your system.
  2. Remove the HDD and replace it with the new SSD.
  3. Connect the removed HDD via USB.
  4. Boot from the Acronis Rescue Media.
Note: If you haven't already created this or received it on a CD/DVD, then create this from within the Windows Acronis application.
  5. Ensure that you boot in the same mode as your Windows starts, i.e. UEFI mode or Legacy/MBR
  6. Perform the Clone operation.
  7. Shutdown the system, remove the Rescue media and disconnect the USB connected HDD.
  8. Start the system normally from the cloned SSD drive.
Note: if you needed to change any BIOS/UEFI boot options, reset these before restarting, i.e. select Windows Boot Manager rather than the SSD drive.

I had Acronis on my old XP machine.  I moved all my data to a new Windows 10 laptop using a portable hard drive.  I then transferred Acronis to the new machine and did a full backup of the laptop to a desktop hard drive which seemed to work correctly. When I tried to boot the laptop this morning I just get a message at the top left of the screen "Starting Acronis UEFI Loader...."  The machine then hangs and the only resort is to switch it off.  I am a novice and am typing this plea for help on the old XP machine which , thank God< is still working.  Can anyone help me please?
