Acronis fails to delete incremental backups from a sequence and shows long gone backups as present.
When I open Acronis and right click an incremental backup and select delete (to delete from the HDD that complete set of backups) I find that only the first full image is deleted and that the smaller incrementals remain.
Why ?
Also Acronis still shows backups as present that have been deleted (and not just deleted, I formatted the HDD) yet it still shows them. I click "update list" and they still remain.
Why ?

You can delete backups from within ati -- if the files don't actually exist anymore, you'll get an error message that the files aren't found but this will clean them form the database. If a task stops making or deleting files as it should, first thing you can try is to delete the task (takes all the associated backups with it) and make a new task. If you want to save any of the backups, then before deleting task, move them to some other location.
Next time you load ati, these moved backups will show up but their associated task, which you deleted in the steps above, won't run. So, to sum up, delete old, make new. Move old files first if want to ave them.
That pretty easy and works in most cases. If it doesn't then, try Pat's steps editing the xml file or uninstalling/reinstalling ati.

Sorry for not replying earlier folks. For some reason I have missed either the notifications or been distracted by all the issues I was experiencing.
All I can add is that since my other posting on "permissions" ATI 2012 seems to have been behaving itself. In fact I have just this second deleted a set of 6 incrementals from within ATI and all worked instantly and correctly.
Fingers still crossed ;-)
