Acronis Home 2010 and ASUS G Series G51JX-X1

Thread needs solution

I perform backups religiously on all my important machines using Acronis (great product; I've been a customer for a long time). I recently upgraded to Home 2010, and I've had no issues with this version...until now.

I recently purchased an ASUS G Series G51JX-X1 from NewEgg. As with all my important machines, I created backups of that machine's installed OS and additional drives using Home 2010. However, I had need to restore from my backups a few weeks ago, and it has somehow damaged my machine. After the restore, the laptop will no longer power off, or reboot, or sleep. Windows shuts down (I see the final flush to the hard drive), but following that, it just sits there doing nothing. I have to press and hold the power button for 4 seconds to get the machine to power down.

I had seen somewhere on the Interwebs that Acronis Backup was somehow messing with the EFI on the machine. I submitted a bug report to ASUS about this over three weeks ago, but they are just ignoring me. Has anybody here experienced this issue, and if so, have you discovered a solution? I've considered even resetting the CMOS on the laptop, but that's not a easy to do as it is with a desktop MB.

Isn't Acronis Home 2011 just out in Beta for testing only? Why would you use that for important back ups?

Sorry, "mispoke". It's actually 2010.
