Acronis One-Click Backup not overwriting previous backup

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image Home 2010. I ran One-Click Backup to create a full system image, and it's on a schedule to run every Sunday. According to the task settings, it is set to overwrite the previous full backup. But when it runs the next Sunday, rather than overwriting the previous backup, it creates a new file and ends up running out of hard drive space and cannot complete.

I would have plenty of room if it would overwrite the previous file as it is supposed to.

I used the default settings for One-Click Backup and am backing up to an external hard drive. Any ideas? Is it a bug?

ATI doesn't actually overwrite; that wouldn't be prudent from a security stand point. ATI creates thenew file before deleting the old file; this protects you form automatically losing your previous backup if the subsequent backup fails. However, it means yo need room for one more backup than the number you wish to keep. So One thing to consider, do you have enough space that second backup?

I do not. So what would be the best full image backup solution (until I can get a larger hard drive)? Incremental?

I think so. An inc would allow you to update you backup using minimal room. I def recommend getting a larger drive that will hold several full backups so that you can maintain a historical series, so to speak.
