"Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" Question

Thread needs solution

First, I wanted to say thanks to the forum. Great to have a resource.

I've just upgraded to True Image Home 2009 from True Image 6.0 and I'm reading through the PDF instructions. Lots of changes indeed!

My question is in reference to the "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" feature. I understand it overwrites the MBR, but does this eliminate the other F11 options, or just add Acronis as another option? Also, is there any advantage to using this feature vs. booting from the rescue media?

TIA

If your system was using F11 and you activate the ASRM, you will lose the previous function of F11. The ASRM is used in conjunction with the Secure Zone but many users, myself included, prefer to keep Backup Images on another internal/external hard drive since, if your system drive goes "belly up" the Images in the SZ goes with it.
And with the Images on another drive you can use the Rescue CD or the installed software to do your Backups.

Thanks for the reply.

I, too, keep my images on both an internal second HDD as well as an external, so I’ll forgo the ASRM feature then.

I wanted to add how impressed I am with 2009. V6.0 was pretty good, but what a difference both in GUI, speed, and features.

That's good that 2009 works well for you ... as you can see from reading the forum, not everyone is so fortunate.

Btw, be sure to make the Rescue CD and do a "dry run" of a Restore. And if you have a spare hard drive do an actual restore to it.

Hello jnibori,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

If you have just purchase Acronis True Image Home 2009 you should be eligible for a free upgrade of Acronis True Image Home 2010 which has just been released. Check the following Kb article for more information how to get free upgrade.

Thanks for the replies.

I did just check on the free upgrade. I am not, however, getting the pop up box, showing I'm eligible. I did purchase a new boxed version, via Amazon less than two weeks ago- but there's some info that I'm not sure I qualify:

"A valid Acronis Advantage Standard/Premier support program for Acronis True Image Echo;"

"All users who purchased the previous version in 30 days prior to release of Acronis True Image Home 2010 via our official resellers, official online stores and authorized retailers are eligible for receiving the product upgrade free of charge. To receive the upgrade, you should make an inquiry to Acronis Customer Central."

I'm running WinXP Home, so from looking at the upgrade information, it does not look like I'm missing much anyhow, except for the single file validation feature. I do have TrueImage configured to validate after each creation, so I'm not sure that's even anything I'd need, unless I manually validate.

As far as the dry run, I might try that.

I'm actually using both TrueImage 6.0 and 2009 for two separate and independent images, which I validate and store both on an external HDD as well as an internal second HDD. I make my living using my computer, so it got a little scary when the boot media would not detect and of the drives, so now I'm in hyper-back up mode.

I decided to purchase 2009 after I fell victim to Acronis 6.0 not detecting any hard drives and I was running out of options, as I tried everything from the FAQ as far as third party programs causing the problem. I decided to download the trial version of 2010 to make some new rescue media and that actually solved the problem. Then I played around with the upgraded program as well and liked what I saw. 2010 was out, but I found 2009 for much less, and it seemed to be fine, since I'm still on XP anyhow.

How do I or is there a way to reverse the Recovery Manager and delete the unused partition it created?

Thanks,

Bob

Hello all,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

jnibori jnibori, I have found your serial number in our database, however, it does not display a purchase date. Could you please send me a copy of your invoice or receipt scan via PM so I can check it?

Bob D, yes, this can be done. Startup Recovery Manager can be deactivated by fixing your MBR. The exact instructions are depended on OS you use. Could you please give us the exact name of your system? Also, Acronis Secure Zone (a partition which used by Startup Recovery Manager can be deleted from our program itself (Tools -> Manage Secure Zone -> Remove) either by means of any partitioning software. For example, Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0

Thank you.

Hello jnibori,
