Acronis Tech/Customer support failure

Thread needs solution

I have an issue installing Acronis True Image 2010. At first Tech Support was great trying to help. I guess they got tired, because while the case is still open, they are ignoring my emails. I tried to get a response from Customer Support, with the same results.

I bought three copies of ATI and two of them installed and ran great. The third failed to install with a message indicating that installation had been interrupted. This is to a WinXP Pro SP3 machine that runs well and is healthy.

Great product. Underwhelming support. Wonder if I should go back to Norton Ghost? Is there another option?

You can try using msconfig.exe to disable all startup programs and all nonMS services, then reboot, do you uninstalls, installs, then use msconfig to restore to normal startup and reboot again. This often helps with a probelm install.

Also, if you go the ATI website and then to Support, you'll see a Start here button and on the next screen will be Chat, which is the fastest way to get Acrdonis support.

Thanks Scott. I've been the chat route with Tech Support and the last time I tried that, it told me that nobody was available to help me.

I have tried the msconfig route, but did not disable all non-ms services as you suggested. I just disable a couple that I thought would interfere. I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.

Thanks.

You may also need to check that your Windows temp folder is as empty as Windows will allow. TI is very fussy about the contents here.

You will find the temp folder (it might be listed as a hidden file, so enable system and hidden files in Explorer) in XP; C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Local Settings\Temp.

Delete the contents of the folder - there may be some files that Widnows is using and you can't delete. If you wish to delete these as well you'll need to have booted Windows into SAFE mode. Try under normla log in to start with, as the files that Windows has locked shouldn't be the problem.

bodgy,
Good suggestion, but I have previously tried that. I've also looked in the system log for help and found none. Thanks.

USing msconfig is a small pita, but it has two big benefits. First, some programs install nicely when you use it and do not if you don't and this depends mcuh upon what other software you have. Second, if you install going the mscofng route and the prog works until you put all the startup stuff back with msconfig, then you know you have a program conflict and, although tedious, you can add things back one by one, rebooting each time to find the conflict. Then you really have something that the tech folks acan deal with.

Sorry about your chat experience. Chat is limited to 12 hours per day ---8 to 8, weekdays only. And like most support systems, can often be overloaded, especially when a new version comes out. I believe Acrdonis is considering making it easier to gt to the Chat button, which can make it less of an effort to to try to get official help. Meanwhile, good luck, more help is sure to come from this forum.
