Acronis True Image 11 Backup hangs - locking partition C
I have been using Acronis for almost 1 year. Until this week, all backups have worked fine. Symptom is:
In Windows XP (SP3), start Acronis 11.
Start full backup of C: partition to external USB disk E:
Backup starts; progress bar marches across.
After about 15-30 minutes (varies for each failure), system either freezes (no mouse or keyboard actions work) or hangs (acronis progress bar does not advance, can not close acronis)
No restart indication of cause.
No event log entries at time of crash.
Last acronis log indicates "locking partition c:..." and nothing more.
Adequate disk space available in target location.
Same version of acronis I've been using for some time. Same backup disk drive (E:) which I've used successfully in the past.
Tried uninstall/re-install, with no change.
I notice this issue has been reported before with various types of acronis products...see e.g., example threads below.

Any advice on how I can fix/resolve?

Will that same SnapAPI update work on Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server (English) build #3854 ? Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2.
We are experience a similar problem where Acronis just stops at locking partition. If I go in a 2nd time and try it, it works (most of the time). We also recieve an error in event viewer
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error

Im experiancing the same issue. I have a brand new server running Windows Server 2008 SP1 (also runds SQL and TS)
The last entry in the Acronis log is "Locking Partition C"...
The server reboots and then has to run a consistancy check on the RAID 5 arrays...
I have the latest build of TI Echo Server (Vuild 8398) on this server.
Any Idea's? There are no log or enevt errors in the MS log files...

Hello all,
Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
Let me help you to fix the problem.
Paul and James, you need a different version of SnapAPI drivers to fix the issue. Please download it using this link, unpack the archive and run the installation. Please note that you need to reboot the machine after the installation finishes.
Please let me know if the issue still persists or if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to assist you further.
Thank you.

I am having the same problem with TI 2010 Build 6053
on Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit.
I have an Intel Raid Controller in my laptop.
It simply freezes up when trying to lock the partition.
Sometime it goes to the BSOD sometimes it just hangs.
I've cheked the disks and everything is fine.
Which version of the SnapAPI should I try?
Regards,
Mario

I have tried the SnapAPI. I experiance the same issues. Now I have a new issue however. The Microsoft Backup is Failing and causing reboots also.
The event log show multiple "VSS" errors.
Event ID 22 and Event ID 12292
How can I remove all Acronis related VSS and SnapAPI drivers and dll's?
I need to at least have the Microsoft Backup running while we are troubleshooting the Acronis issue.

My problem is similar but not quite the same.
I am running True Image 11 on Vista Ultimate 32bit SP2. It has previously made a backup of C: partition onto G: partition for me no problem (in August). However now when I try to do the same backup (full not incremental or differential) it gets part way through and hangs. It's variable when, but always in the first few minutes.
Progress never indicates more than 0%. Progress stays on same file path for hours. No advancing on progress bars. Logs show partiton locks locks and it begins creating, but nothing else. I also think Acronis doesn't cancel process properly after I give up and try to cancel it.
Chkdsk c: is fine. I downloaded and installed the latest build 8101 over previous build 8053. Disabled Diskeeper 2010 and Bullguard Internet Security 8.7. No improvement.
Any ideas here? Thanks.

Hello Philip,
Let me assist you.
SnapAPI drivers for Acronis True Image 2010 differs from version 10's ones. You can download SnapAPI driver for Acronis True Image 10 Home using this download link.
Please reply to this thread if you have any questions.
Thank you.

I'm experiencing a similar problem. I just installed latest Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Workstation build 17440 on a windows XP machine, SP 3. I tried twice to run a full backup of the C drive. Both times between 5 and 30% complete the PC crashed.
These PC's are used as operator control consoles and are part of a Distributed Control System that operates a power station. Our vendor has used Acronis 9.2 in the past to backup with no issues. I tried to resolve the issue with Acronis tech support but could not get the technician to understand why he could not remote into the PC. I’ve since e-mailed my problem to Acronis along with the files they require.
We are new at trying to use Acronis to backup all our control system servers and clients. Hopefully this forum can help.
