Acronis True Image 2010

Thread needs solution

Hello, using ATI 2010 on 1.4Ghz Computer with XP(SP-3).

I am posting a 3 part question. First, I have made backups with Acronis 9 & 10. They both had the ability to Validate the completed backups. I can not find this ability in Acronis 2010. Has it been decided that this ability is no longer needed?

Second: When making a complete Disk backup, previously one .tib File was produced. You could then attach incremental backups with new or changed/updated information to it. ATI 2010 makes a series of numbered Files, Starting with number 1, I suppose based upon their size. Which of THESE files would you use to connect an incremental backup or to restore the entire backup? (First or Last)

Third: If you need to restore a single file from a backup, do you mount the entire backup or is there a way to locate the file among the series of files listed for that Backup?

Thanks for any help.

Hello Warren,

Thank you for posting your questions, I will be happy to help.

1) There are two ways to perform a validation in Acronis True Image Home 2010:

- You can tick the Validate backup archive when it is created box during the backup operation management. Archive validation is available in Backup options (the Optional steps tab at the left side of the manage backup operation window) .

- You can also create a validation task in the following way:

Select Recovery to get the access to the archives, make right-click on the archive you want to validate and select Validate archive. Specify the desired settings and hit the Proceed button.

2) Acronis True Image Home 2010 stores information about the backup archives in a metadata information database. That's why you shouldn't pay attention to the structure of the backup files, you can identify the necessary backup file from within program interface by the date of its' creation or by your comments.

Acronis True Image Home 2010 is able to create one backup file. The most probable reason for the issue is that your destination hard drive has FAT32 file system. FAT32 supports 4GB file size. That's why the archive is divided into several parts.

3) To find the necessary file inside the archive you can Mount or Explore the archive (please see  User Guide for Acronis True Image Home 2010, chapter 17 on how to do it).

In addition to the ability to explore backup archives, Acronis True Image Home 2010 provides a search facility for tib and zip archives themselves, for files in tib archives only, as well as offering full-text search in the comments to archives. This facilitates searching for the information you need for using Acronis True Image Home 2010 and for recovering files from your backup archives (please see chapter 18 for more information).

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

Hi Oleg,

I have a slightly different use of Validate in mind. I would like to use the Rescue Disk to LATER validate an existing archive. With TI 2010, the closest I can come to your suggestion above is the "Validate before restore" option very late in the Restore sequence. The words imply that after the Validate, the Restore will automatically continue to run. I DO NOT want to Restore, but just Validate the Archive.

The method you suggested doesn't work with my 2010 Rescue Disk (Build 7046). I could not get any result after right-clicking on a selected archive.

Thanks, Ev Merritt
