Acronis True Image 2010 build 6053 UAC "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes..."

Thread needs solution

This is the weirdest thing: I have purchased 4 licences and rolled out all on Windows 7 (Professional 32bit and Ultimate 64bit).

On 2 computers (Prof 32) I am getting the UAC prompt: "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to your computer?" when starting the main program (TrueImageLauncher.exe). But NOT on the others. Any idea how to fix this ? All users are admins on their computer.

I get the UAC prompt all the time trying to run any of the Acronis programs from my account which has administrator privileges. I have tried running it in various modes and as, and not as administrator but it makes no difference.

I am amazed this has not been answered.

I am running a trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2011.

I am desperate to find a reliable and usable back up program for Windows 7 and am getting more and more frustrated.

I was looking to solve the same problem. I have build 7046 which I just upgraded a machine that was taken from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and had Acronis installed before upgrading Win Vista. I followed other form threads that suggested running the 7046 again and selecting Repair. Absolutely no effect.

It is amazing the entire Backup & Recovery community including Acronis can backup files but is poor at restoring them. The non-replies are everywhere.

This is a real problem yet not much attention is given. They are relying on community forms to do support on commercial software. This is why we see the appearance to new backup software every 3 or 4 years. Then the cycle repeats itself. I've watched this for 30 years.

Sorry to be so glum.

Do you have the UAC level set to the same point on all your machines?

OK, I'm off! I've browsed the forum, given Acronis a good try-out and it seems the whole thing is bug ridden and unreliable. Just what you don't need in backup software.

Next I'm going to try Backup4all which people seem to like.

Bye!

My fix is documented below but first a little more of my opinions.

Keep me up to date on your new adventures with Back4All. I also suggest you try Open Source cloneZilla which has a command line utility called partClone or partImage and is scripting oriented. macrium dot com from UK or Italy. It is new but has a better user interface. New means inexperienced.

All that said, Acronis and the Open Source CloneZilla both have experience with the Real-Time low level software aspect. As you already know even those have Real-Time and Systems level issues. Macrium is so new I wonder if they and Back4All and others have a steep learning curve. Experimentation is required for your situation.

This part and knowing the internals is critical. Most backup software does a poor job of programming the low-level Real-Time and core system issues. I know I've done that kind of work for 25 years. The industry repeats design and quality errors and issues we solved 20 years ago. I'm volunteering systems development time to solve the networking and Real-Time issues for the CloneZilla utilities. It will take time, no lunch is free.

My Issue Fix:

Since I wrote my reply I came across the solution for my issue. Acronis True Image Home 2010 build 7046 requires to be installed from an administrator account under M$ Windozes 7 Home Edition.

Now here's the tricky part for my issue. It has to be the same as the NET administrator not a designated user(..like a designated driver..) administrator, rather a special network administrator. Wwhhhaaattt??? Acronis wants you to install, create, and run the scheduled backups

I found this in another thread within this form. I just kept looking & looking & looking & ......

This may or may not apply to Vista and Windows XP sp 3. Here we go.....

1. Open a command prompt windows, the old DOS prompt I remember so well

2. Type: net user administrator /active:Yes [ENTER]

3. Type: net user administrator
[ENTER]

4. Yes as always "It is necessary to Reboot Windozes for changes to take effect" ....wait...

5. A new account should appear named Administrator at the Windozes sign-on screen.

Feel free to send a message directly to johnswolter at wolterworks dot com

Maybe this will make your day better.

John,

You have just jogged my memory! :)

I'm writing this just before leaving for work, so haven't had a chance to double check. For the UAC issue, check to see if the user logon is;

1. A member of the Backup Operators group. - This group has authority to override access restrictions.

2. If installed, that there is an Acronis Agent User (this might only apply to corporate products and not the home versions of Acronis).

Colin,

The context for my issues is Windows 7 Home Edition. I have not had access to the local machine or users policy management. That edition does not include a management console with that included. Can you give me some background on the Backup Operators group and the Acronis Agent User?

Per my last message I activated what appears to be a Windows 7 network administrator. That being so kind of Super User that has more authority then a User type administrator.

POWER FAILURE IS UNDER WAY...SIGNING OFF.

I have tried and given up on Backup4All. A files backup was OK as far as I could tell. I then tried a Mirror backup of my C drive which has very little on it. After 5 hours of "preparing" but doing nothing else, I decided Backup4All was not for me!

I have now found, purchased, and love Macrium Reflect Backup. It did an Image backup of my C drive like lightning and is now rapidly doing a files backup of my over half filed 1Tb files drive. After 5 minutes it says 1 hour to go! Anything else was taking 5-6 hours or even 2 days (Windows 7 backup software).
