Acronis True Image 2011 - How to get GPT support?

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2011 and need to restore a backup onto a GPT disk.

When I select the target disk, a warning comes up next to it that says "Dynamic Disk" and then a hyperlink below it says "please purchase Plus Pack for dynamic/GPT disk support."

When I click the hyperlink nothing happens. Does ATIH 2013 support GPT? Or can I buy the 2013 Plus Pack and use it with ATIH 2011?

2013 supports GPT disks. The Plus Pack has to be the same as the version you are running. You do not need the 2013 Plus Pack unless you are using Dynamic drives or want the additional features it provides. http://kb.acronis.com/content/34863

Are you trying to restore a Windows installation that was on an MBR style disk to a new GPT style disk, or are you restoring files/folders to a disk that is already installed as GPT? If you are restoring only files/folders, you could restore them to a non-GPT disk and then copy them to the GPT disk. (For example, restore to a USB MBR style external drive, and then use Windows to copy the files to the GPT disk from the USB connected drive.)

From an older KB article about MBR and GPT restores:
-- if a GPT disk image is recovered over a GPT disk, the target disk remains a GPT disk
-- if a GPT disk image is recovered over an MBR disk, the target disk remains an MBR disk
-- if an MBR disk image is recovered over an MBR disk, the target disk remains an MBR disk
-- if an MBR disk image is recovered over a GPT disk, the target disk becomes an MBR disk

2013 probably follows these guidlines, but may have some added functionality.

Question? IF you make a backup image with ATIH 2013 from a GPT Disk (with 4 partitions + recovery partition) and want to Restore to a brand new SSD Drive , do you need to 'initialize' the new SSD drive in Computer / Disk Management (in WIN7) prior to running the Restore? Also, will the multiple partitions cause any problems if the image created in ATIH 2013 is the "Disk Method" vs. "Partition Method"?

I was about to change to Macrium Reflect, but just got an email back from Acronis Support telling me the GPT is supported in ATIH 2013 and ATIH 2014

Thanks,

Steve
