Acronis True Image 2013 & RAID Array 0 Processing

Thread needs solution

I have a workstation where I am using a striped array (Raid 0) that is made up of two 500 GB SATA hard drives. This workstation is used solely for video editing and processing video in a Raid 0 environment is necessary. I want to replace these two 500 GB SATA hard drives with two 2 TB SATA hard drives. I have the room in the case to add two more hard drives and I also have the available SATA ports on the motherboard that will support a second striped array (Raid 0). Once I get all the data migrated from the first array to the newer and larger array, I want to remove the first array from the system.

I would like to know how I can achieve this with the Acronis True Image product. I understand that I will need to get the Plus (now called the Premium) version and I am planning on purchasing this.

What are my options once I get the Premium version. Can I clone from the first array to the second array? Can I backup the data from the first array to an external hard drive and then restore from the external hard drive to the second array? Will either method work? What are the pros and cons of each method? I've never done this before with the product and would like to hear from someone who has some experience with this type of situation.

The hard drives that I have been using for my current array are both from the same manufacturer and are the same model and capacity. The new and larger array will have two hard drives from the same manufacturer and will be the same model and capacity. This is always a requirement when using any type of array (Raid 0, 1, 10, etc.).

Hello ThreeD,

welcome to Acronis Forum and thank you for your post!

If your new RAID requires new drivers you will need backup/recovery method and Acronis Universal Restore.

Here you can find a step-by-step instruction on how to move your system to dissimilar hardware.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Since the current array has only data (video clips, audio clips, etc.) and is not used for booting up because I have a separate hard drive where the operating system resides, do I need to worry about drivers? My intention is to install 2 new hard drives into the available sata ports that are on the motherboard and then configure these two drives into a new and larger array. Once I have this new array up and operational, I want to then migrate all the data off the older and smaller array onto the new array. Once this task is completed I would then remove the older and smaller array from the system. Since my boot drive (C:) is not part of this process I don't need to do anything with the drive or the OS other than setting up the new array and removing the older array. How do the drivers for the new hard drives affected in this process?

Once I do have the new array up and operational it sounds like I cannot do a clone from one array to the other. Rather, I need to backup/archive from the old array to an external hard drive and then restore from the external hard drive to the new array. Is this correct?

Hi ThreeD,

if your RAID contains data only and operating system is on the separate disk, then you don't need to worry about drivers and thus don't need Acronis Universal Restore.

In principal you can clone your array, but it will be more safely to use backup/restore method.

Thank you.
