Acronis True Image 2013, Restore email

Thread needs solution

I want to restore my Gmail and Outlook emails from a previous backup, but I do not know where to find them (name/extension?), and what procedure to follow. I know the location of my @outlook.pst file, but not for the gmail-file. Can you help me?

I use True Image 2013 NL and look at page 106 of the manual. I should start at window 'Versies weergeven' and 'Bestandsherstel', but that is not in my startup screen(?). And where do I find 'Acronis Backup Explorer'? The manual is very unclear/inconsistent about necessary instructions!

Hello Jan,

See web page: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Locating-the-Outlook-data-files-0996ece3-57c6-49bc-977b-0d1892e2aacc  for information on where Outlook data files are stored by default.

For local Gmail folders, I suspect that this will be determined by the Email program you are using.

What type of backup are you trying to restore from?  Disk or Partitions, or Files and Folders?

See the ATIH 2013 User Guide page on recovery Mail from a file backup assuming you have done a specific Mail backup.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for this reply, but still have some concerns:

I searched fot *.pst om My computer but found no recent outlook.pst or gmail.pst. Instead -with help of your link- I found 2 .ost files in drive:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook. Indeed I open Gmail mostly through Outlook, so I got this file also.

So now I need to restore an older backup (say ~April 1) from Gmail from my backups, but I am afraid that if I restore this old version, will it replace the current today-version, or will it add to? How can I avoid to loose email-messages?

I use Backup disk & partitions for my program disk C: and Backup Files for my data disk D: (dynamic disk).

My second question is still open: where do I find 'View Versions' and 'File Recovery' (chapter 4.6)? And where do I find 'Acronis Backup Explorer'? The manual is very unclear/inconsistent about necessary menu instructions!

Hello Jan, when you take the option to restore an individual file, you should see two options for where to restore it to - one will be the original location (where the file was saved from) but the second choice is to restore to a different location.  You should take the second choice so as to not overwrite your current email store.  You should be able to open the restored file within Outlook as a separate archive though I would suggest renaming it before doing so, to avoid any confusion.

One other point to be careful of is how Microsoft handles these types of mail archive files: See post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/117030#comment-351442 for another user with a similar issue recently.

Please see the online ATIH 2013 User Guide for information about the Backup Explorer - this has some graphics showing the menu structures.

See also ATIH 2013 User Guide for information on Recovering File Versions - which you access through the Backup Explorer.
