Acronis True image 2014
I followed Grover tips to use the move backup option and now the task points to the new location as expected and also
the most recent backup version was moved however the other 9 versions are still in the old place the ASZ
I would like to move them all to my external drive to free space can I do that?
thanks

Mohamed, sorry my mistake about using Windows Explorer to move files from the ASZ - it has been some time since I have used ASZ as prefer to use my own dedicated partition where I have full control rather than what the ASZ limits you to.
Please see post: 44074: Moving backups from ASZ to another drive which may be what you have already done as per your initial post about Grovers tips. If the remaining files in the ASZ are related to the same task that you have already moved by this method, then I can only suggest that you remove the ASZ and then add it back again if you are happy to remove these previous version files.
The only alternative would be to try to use the option to 'Add existing backup' to your ATIH 2014 task list and point to one of the backup versions in the ASZ if this is allowed, then try to move this added task as above.

thanks
seems ASZ isnt a practical choice anymore
so when the first method didn't work i decided to get rid of 2014 and install the new 2016 version
now i tried adding a new task and refering to ASZ but it keeps saying that
one file of the chain is missing even though i know for sure there are at least 3 full chains
and i can access the 3 chains through ASZ
I think i ll contact support before i say good bye to those backup versions they were the first three months of my new PC
thanks for trying to help anyway

Hi, I'm new to this forum, please excuse.
I have the dreaded error 1962 (no operating system found) screen on my Lenovo H520 desktop. After cconsiderable down time/research/trials I concluded that since my performing chkdisk did actually succeed, except terminating with message "failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50", I should be able to boot from my Acronis TI 2014 product disc to retrieve my data files from my hard drive, before re-installing Windows 8.1.
But, to no avail.
Booting from the disc (on my afflicted machine) instead of getting the expected home screen with all the Acronis options, I get this light blue "Recovery" screen. Options on it are:
- Continue boot
- Use a device
- Troubleshoot
- Turn off PC
To do what I want, the only sensible option would be to "Use a device", namely the DVD drive with my Acronis disc in it.
However, after accessing the disc for awhile (quite a wait ~ 5+ minutes) I get a black screen with a cursor on the upper left side and after another comparable wait, I again get the "error 1962" message.
Why would my Acronis disc not boot?
Appreciate any helpI can get.
Thanks.

I was wondering if data recovery software can get the files from ASZ ?
it is a partition after all
also since you don't use ASZ anymore do you use any protection over the partition where you save your backups ? or just store them anywhere?
thanks for your time

Rudolf, welcome to these user forums - please can you create your own new topic for your request for help as this is very different to this topic dealing with the Acronis Secure Zone - click on the New Topic button at the top of the forum page.
Mohamed, please see the Wikipedia page: Acronis Secure Zone where it discusses how the partition type code can be changed using a partition manager program to make the ASZ into a standard FAT32 partition where you can then use normal file explorer tools etc.
For myself, I use a mix of different backup destinations, some local, some on external USB drives and for security / protection, others on my Synology NAS drive which is not accessible from any Windows shares, mapped drives or using any Windows credentials. Acronis uses unique credentials to access the NAS which exist on the NAS only and does not match any user in Windows.

welcome rudolf,
I am not qualified to help you , but you will have a much better chance if you start your own thread with a specific title
as you see i started this thread asking for help myself
no one will see what posted here to give you the help you need
good day

thanks steve,
I didn't read your answer when i replied to rudolf my bad
I am grateful for your help
one last question is the who NAS drive accessible only by Acronis? or just the backup partition or folder?
if the whole drive is inaccessible then it is very secure I guess but too expensive to dedicate a whole NAS for acronis don't you think?

Mohamed, only the backup folder on the NAS is accessible to Acronis, other folders on the drive require different credentials, but the primary use of the NAS is for backups and protecting data. I also use Synology Cloud Station Drive to synchronise other data to the NAS and between different systems, akin to using Dropbox - this is completely separate to the Acronis backup folders.
In terms of being expensive - what price do you put on your data and ability to recover any of your computer systems? The cost of the NAS is less than hackers will ask to unencrypt your drive from their ransomware, assuming you would trust them to do so if you paid! The NAS cost less than the price of buying another computer or the equivalent cost of a couple of hundred cups of Costa coffee!

OOPS!
Thanks for pointing this out, Steve & Mohamed.

First posting Using Acronis True Image HD 2014 to clone my hard drive to a Crucial MX300 SSD,seems to work ok but after a few minutes running my PC freezes completely (Windows 10). I have to swich off power to reboot. When I reboot the same thing happens every time, boots fine and runs for a while before freezing again, could this be a problem with the clone process. I reconnect my old hard drive back and it runs fine.

Derek, it's possible, but hard to say without knowing more (logs, etc). I have not heard good things about the Crucials - seems like more times than not, when people are having issues with new SSD's, crucial seems to be listed. How much free space is on your SSD - if you have less than 20% free, that will make the drive run like blah. It is recommended to "over provisiion" an SSD by 20%. Essentially, this means that you shring the main paritions by 20% and leave that 20% unallocated so that the SSD can use that free space for caching. I usually don't like to give up that much space though, but I do try to do at least 10%. Once an SSD starts filling up beyond 80% , it will be slower than even a spinning drive.
If space is not an issue
1) run chkdsk /f /r on your newly cloned drive from an elevated command prompt and see if detects any issues and attempts to mark bad sectors or reapair them
2) run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt and see if it detects any OS corruption and attempts to repair it
3) Alternatively, go back and take a full disk image of the original drive and then restore the image to the new SSD (instead of cloning) and see that produces a better result.
4) You might have gotten a dud drive - it happens. I've had some 850 EVO's that failed on me after a few months - we use a lot of them and most work just fine, but you get some bad ones from time to time. If you're lucky, maybe there's newer firmware available that might improve performance if it's not something physically wrong with the PCB.
Keep in mind that Acronis 2014 is not supported for Windows 10. I'm sure the offline recovery media "should" work, but perhaps not. If you're starting your clone from within Windows, don't do that either - always use your rescue media to start the clone. I wold recommend using the rescue media to take a full system image as well before a major upgrade like this - it's better to leave the OS and third party apps out of the mix when you know you're going into a situation where you're going to be restoring.

The original installation of TIH 2014 stopped working. When clicking the exe file (TrueImageLauncher.exe) directly, all I get is a page with a "Get Started" tutorial . At the top of the page, there is a menu toolbar. The choices of "Backup and Recovery" and "Tools and Utilities" are not working (greyed out). I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it which didn't help. I've tried downloading the updated version as well as using the original software on the original purchased disc. There is no change. The OS is Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 Bit. I've made sure that the anti-virus software is off when installing and trying to use the software. Any suggestions for overcoming this will be appreciated.
