Acronis True Image 2014 cannot backup shared folder

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I have Acronis True Image 2014 and I am trying to backup shared folder from my WD Cloud drive into a NAS (D-Link DNS-323).
I am using Windows 7 64bit. All shared folders and mapped drives are accessible and have full access. The backup location on D-link NAS is accessible from within Acronis.
It seems that the problem is accessing the shared folder on WD Cloud drive.
Here is the log:
Access to the file or folder is denied. (0x40014)
function = "WNetAddConnection3W",
filename = "\\WDMYCLOUD"
Tag = 0xF35F747B3B21FA6F
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password (0xFFF0)
code = 8007052E)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8C3

I would appreciate any information on how to make the backup of the shared drive.

Thank you,

Karel

The information you have provided indicates that the application needs user credentials to access the WD Mycloud device. Do you have a username and password setup for that device?

Greetings,
Are both of the devices members of "WORKGROUP"? If not, are you specifying the correct server\username? How is sharing configured on the MyCloud? Don't rely on DHCP, use static IPs for both storage devices. Dashboard > Settings cog > Network, select static, then configure (page 118) of your manual.

Other thoughts:
Pointing to Mapped drives in windows is not reliable. Use \\FQDN\sharedfolder or \\IPaddress\\sharedfolder *** using a static IP usually helps.

Have you tried making the share public instead of private while troubleshooting?

Sometimes using windows homegroups helps with this type of shared folder back up. You may need to re-authenticate to a shared folder if the device it is on goes to sleep or into standby, but I suspect this is all going to come down to how the MyCloudEX is configured.

Ah, DLink... I still have my 323 which sits next to my QNAP. F/W 1.0.9 was the best, 1.0.10 wouldn't format AF drives.

Seems Enchantech and I were both posting at the same time :)

Hi,
Yes, I just tried to remove the mapped drive, and re-map it using IP address instead of device name. I have set up the username and password and it works when I access the drive through Windows Explorer. I checked the username and password in Credential Manager and it all checks.
I just installed the latest build (6688 I believe) and still no go.
The weird thing is that it always worked until 12th of February when my backups stopped working. But until then it all worked fine.

Hi,
Thank you for all your advice.
Both devices are members of WORKGROUP. I am specifying correct user name and password. Just changed the static IP for the WD Cloud because it seems that there is no issue on D-link end. Interestingly enough, I can back up FROM D-link TO WD Cloud without issues.
As in my comment earlier to Enchantech, I used IP address instead of WDCLOUD still no go.
I tried to make the share public with no success, but for all the purposes I cannot have the folder set as public.
I will check homegroups, but I do not suspect an issue as I can access the folders and files without any issues in Windows Explorer.
The weird part is that it worked fine until 12 of February and was able to access everything. Since then, no go.
Yes, I thought that DNS-323 was too old for me, but I love it. I am still contemplating whether to switch to Tomato or stick with the stock firmware.
Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Please verify that you have confirmed that authentication settings are correct and connection to your device has tested positive as outlined here:

Hi all,
So I made it work, but I am not sure how the process works. As I mentioned I checked all the usernames and passwords, but it never worked. So I tried to make a backup the other way - from backup share (D-Link) to WD Cloud drive. Low and behold it worked. It seems that the WD drive needs somehow authenticated in Acronis and since you can only authenticate destination drive, it would not work. After I made the backup work the other way around I tried to run the old backup, but it would not work. So I deleted it and set up a new one and than one worked fine.
Again, I think the issue is that WD drive needs to be authenticated from within Acronis and there is no way of doing it (or at least I did not find it). I am not sure how long the backup will work as it seems that as long as Acronis accesses the WD drive, it would work. But if the authentication gets lost within Acronis, there is no way to re-authenticate the source.
Let me know if I am crazy or if I am missing something...

Thanks for all your help.
