Acronis True Image Home 11 back-up archive file is corrupted.

Thread needs solution

your message above is not consistent, in one place you say you used TI11 to do the backup, then say TI2010 later, which is it?

I'm not sure you can assume different versions of Acronis can use .tib files interchangably without problems, I seem to recall reading other people have had issues using mixed versions, but can't say for sure if that's what's causing your problem.

I'd suggest you try recovery disks from each version of Acronis you own and see if any of them can successfully read the .tib. If not then I'm out of suggestions as I have no way of knowing what the corruption is being caused by.

I know this is obvious, and too late, but having more than one backup file (and multiple disks containing them) prevents these kinds of issues.

As I understand it compatibility only goes as far as 1 previous version (e.g. 2010 would be OK with backups made with 2009 but not with one made with TI11).

Build 8108 is True Image v11 English Language US.

TI 2009 should be able to read v11:8108 archives, TI2010 is not guaranteed to as JRosenfeld said and Doug Wallaby alluded to.

Copying files can cause corruption, but my main question is, why not just attach the backup drive to your Vista PC?

I notice that you mention a network connection so is this backup drive a NAS or a drive attached to a PC on the network?

If the drive is attached to the network then this could be causing a timeout problem, best thing to try is to attach the drive if possible directly to the PC which needs to be re-imaged. Then try validating again, if that checks out a restore should be possible. If this image was made with v11 then unless you have a problem with the CD being able to boot your system, I'd use the v11 CD.

Roman,

You're still confusing me, if you have TI 11, why not just use TI 11 to do the restore if that's what you used to create the backup file.

Also, TI 11 is OLDER than 2009, its from 2007 IIRC, so I'm confused about your comment regarding having to go back two versions. I may be wrong, but I think 2009 was the next version after TI 11, so that is consistent with the claim that you can generally use .tib files from the previous version, but only one version prior. That would also explain why 2010 can't use the .tib from TI 11, because its more than one version newer than TI 11.

Anytime a backup file is copied to a new drive, it is prudent that you validate the new copy. Since any restore of your system (drive C) should be done from the TI Rescue CD, it is best that the validation be done when booted from the TI Rescue CD.

GroverH, I always validate after a image is created, and before that same image is restored to a drive.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your generous assistance and all your feedback!

Roman,

I am very sorry for the inconvenience and I will do my best to assist you.

There are several reasons why a backup can become corrupt, for example, errors on the hard drive, hardware or memory issues. The most common solutions that we offer are to validate the backups first and then move them to another location. If the issue still persists, we suggest this extensive troubleshooting guide for corrupt backups.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the delay. We try our best to respond in time, but just in case to avoid any inconvenience, we have this point in our Terms of Use section, that Grover correctly pointed out in his post above.

If you need immediate assistance, you can always contact our Support team and we will resolve any issues that you may have.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or issues, I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you.

I have exactly the same problem with my ATI 11 v8.101. I'm running W7 x64.

I have created and validated archives with ATI 11 v8.101. When I go back to read them on the disk I use for backups, they are corrupted, as well as any archives that I created with ATI V10.

BUT, when I remove ATI V11 and reinstall ATI V10 I can read every one of my backup archives with ATI V10 on the same disk.

That leads me to believe that the backups are not really corrupt, but the ATI V11 product can't validate them for some reason, whereas the ATI V10 product validates them just fine. My solution will be to stay with ATI V10 and just write off the upgrade fee and find a more reliable, consistent backup product.

As for the support page and start here - I can't seem to ever get to a form that actually allows you to fill out a support request. I just get redirected to the knowledge base or get the latest update. Not a user intuitive web layout from my perspective.
