Acronis True Image Home 2009 crashing & other issues

Thread needs solution

Have previously backed up system but every time I now try a new backup the system crashes after running for 1 and a half to two hours. At the start it says time remaining 11 or so hours but quite quickly this fall to 2 hours. It then stays on two hours remaining even though it has run for almost two hours and is 63% completed.
After crashing it then marks the date on the calender as "Successful"
I bought Acronis to give me security in being able to restore my system if a disaster occurred but am now concerned that I'm not really covered.
Is this normal Acronis behaviour ? If not, then what might I be able to do to get Acronis working as expected ?

One of the first places to start would be check to disk for errors.

From the command line,
chkdsk c: /R
This could run for a long time, Best to do it overnight.
Also test any other disks which are involved.

Upgrade to the latest release of 2009 from your registration page.
You can install over the top.
If you are already using the latest build, then after the error check, I would start the 2009 install program again and choose the repair option.

Thanks for your response GroverH. Ran the chkdsk as you suggested, then tried backup again. The backup still registered 2 hours remaining and the screen continued to show a long way to go but the percentage kept cracking along until it suddenly said it had successfully finished (still saying 2 hours to go).
Then ran validation on the saved backup and that ran perfectly, time remaining clocking down, green bar and percentage completed all remaining in sync.
Strange how the backup seemed to confused in what it was doing but seemed to get there. Of course I haven't (and don't want to do so under the circumstances) tried restoring from the backup.
